I posted this in the vintage bmx board also but i wanted to show you all here to since all my time is spent and all my friends are here.....I'm pretty proud of this bike...even though i won't be keeping it. Here's the story
I wanted to show you all the Redline I just finished but first here is the low down on it. Keep in mind that this is my first venture into the realm of bmx bikes, its been all freestyle bikes for me up to this point.
I have a really good friend that shares a love of old bmx bikes with me although he does not collect them. He told me one day about how he can remember always wanting a Redline BITD because he always just looked up to them as high end light weight race bikes. He grew up riding, and still owns and rides an early 90's Robinson.
Well I aquired this bike as part of a score a while back and I decided that it was time my friend had his Redline.
The whole bike was a budget build with 2 goals in mind....to keep it a rider and to try and keep it as light as possible. I think I acomplished both pretty well.
Unfortunately I do not know the year or the model of this bike since nobody here was able to give a solid answer when I asked some time ago. Therefore this wasn't built to match any particular model or year of Redline, it was built as a "one off" so to speak in my vision of a good looking old Redline. i know I may catch some hell for not restoring it perfectly to original glory, but it was tough since I didn't know exactly what it was.
Anyway, enough typing, here it is.....
Before:

And now....

I built it on my own dime as a gift to my good friend. I'll be giving it to him tomorrow, hopefully it will fullfill the dreams he once had of owning a Redline.

Scott - that thing is SWEET!!! You certainly brought that frame and fork back from the dead.

I'm in the process of doing my first race bike as well. I'll be happy even if it turns out half as nice as your Redline!

I love nice clean looking race bikes. and I reckon you've kicked butt with this one. tell us whate your mates reaction was. The first bike I res tored was this redline I did it for my brother for a christmas present a couple of years ago and he was wrapped!!

Awesome Redline Scott! The red and chrome with checkerboard pads takes me right back to around 1983-84.

I thought pretty highly of you before this, but this act of kindness really shows how nice a guy you really are.

Scott, you're one of the good guys for sure!

Thanks for the cool compliments guys. i really enjoyed building this bike. Its amazing how I've been soooo motivated to get this bike done when all i am doing is giving it away especially considering all the projects of my own I still have sitting here.
But I've really realized what I love about this hobby.
I have my own personal goal of a collection, but its the hunt for the parts, the sense of accomplishment when the bike is done, and mostly the cool friends I've made along the way that keep me involved in this. I may just do this more often , build bikes just give to a family member or friend. The smiles they create are worth way more than the money I spend on them. I've actually already started aquiring parts for my younger bro's childhood bike. An 88 GT Vertigo. But that will be a complete repro build so its taking some time.
Anyway Thanks again for the compliments, they mean allot to me.
Now for some replys......
Brian, actually the red/white shrooms are for one of the bikes in my collection. I wish I could tell all my plans, but when all is done I think you'll all get it. LOL
Broke, thats a super cool RL and even cooler that it was a gift. Same thing i plan with my brother and his Vertigo.
Jeff, dude if your race bike is anything like your freestyle bikes....lookout vintage bmx board, there might be a new sheriff in town.

Matt, thanks for those really cool words. I'd build one for everybody if I could, I'm noticing those are more fun actually. lol
Now here the parts:
