i just got some GT performer OGK made mags and brand new looking GT tires off sean or 87pc. they look very nice and will make my PFT almost complete (block neck is coming so, it will be done then)
what was the trick to get the beads to line up? i fill them to 10psi, try to line up the bead and it just won't get rid of the one low spot. it was like this with skyway mags too due to the "inside lips" not being in the rim walls. should i just stick the tires on rims and fill them to around 80. let them sit for a week and then pull them off the rims as fast as i can and put them on the mags and fill them up?
i recall when i had mags before the beads being a pain in the arse, but im not sure if i ever got the hops out. ACS mags never had this issue, because they had the inner lips on the wall to line up the beads.

getting tires to seat on mags is sometimes a pain, in general, but it's possible you may have a bigger issue, depending on your tires...
there was a point in the late '80s (i forget exactly when) where there was an actual problem with a large batch of GT tires and they just would not seat on any plastic wheel. we had it happen on every bike we had in stock and a lot of our aftermarket tires, too. GT finally replaced/warranteed all the tires with a "non-GT" tire. if you have some of those tires it's unlikely you'll get them to seat on mags (they should work on alloy rims, though).

i know what your saying, i had the same thing with some panaracers, 1 LOW SPOT. i pumped them up a bit soft, then rode on them for a minute that seated them and then filled them up and they were the same all around the mag. at first i had such a low spot i thought the mag was warped.

Carl - it took a lot of work but I followed the advice in another thread that I think was in the in the tech and restore section. There was alot of good info in that one and I will see if I can find it. Basically I pumped them up to about 25 psi then rode around on the basement floor (carpeted section) for about a min and then worked them with my hands trying to get them to even out, then went to 30 psi and rode again. I got the front tire evened out pretty well, the back was harder but got it close. Then I went up to 45psi. I use a hand pump not a compressor which I think works better.

yeah, i just get impatient at 10pm when i got home last night.
i did this:
i pulled the tires off and mounted the GT tires to my ACS rl rims. the beads on the rims are real wide, so that should stretch the tire beads. i had them at 80 psi, and bounced the tire from about my height (6'). pulled the one tire off the ACS rim and put it on the front mag. inflated to 10. lined it up. inflated to 20, and thats where its at now. the rear is still on the one ACS rim since my fingers are raw and i need a break.
when i had mags in my youth i remember that older beat up tires alway went on my mags considerably better. i must of had 2 sets of white mags like these, though they were beat up bad, and one black set which were as good in condition as these are.
