I was at a vintage gathering in Mn. and Krt Schmidt of the 90's and Standard fame was in attendance.

Are you sure this isn't a pic from the 90's?
Check out the Perigrine bars.
Krt (with no "u"?) was, and probably still is, the king of rollback tricks.
So tech.
That's awesome that he's still riding.
Was he busting out?

This pic (those are the legendary Steef's bars) was taken in the mosh pit at the MN BBQ.

Heck, look at Krt's bike—two brakes, big sprocket, high-flange hubs with chrome rims. At least he's got two-piece bars, haha.
Sure he's still killin' it, though—people are STILL trying to catch up to his part in Style Cats.
And he's on here, too. Where you at, Krt?

Sheesh! Could you post an uglier picture? Just kidding.
And so what about my hubs? Isn't this "vintage bmx"? Haha!
Thanks for the compliments!
PS. I would of won that foot down if it had been European rules! Hehe.

i remember seeing you (Krt) do a whole practice run during an old Hoffman contest at S.C.R.A.P. skatepark backwards!! it was on a back-to-back mini half (kind of a spine in the middle). around '93-95ish.

I mostly remember that legendary B.S. contest at Lake Owen. Remember the mini ramp contest? A contest just for mini ramp.. Hoffman, Mirra, Miron and McCoy, all in it just for the mini ramp. Then when they were done shredding the mini, they moved everyone over to the next ramp, which was alot bigger, for more riding. I think that goes down as one of the best comps ever.
Krt's bar endo nosepick and bar endo nosepick to barspin in Style Cats are two of my favorite lip tricks ever. I should learn those..... Also, at some point in my career, I'd like someone to yell "f**** a Darren!" when I do a big barspin 180, like the guy filming did for Krt during his part in Style Cats.
Man that was a good video. The 90's was a great time to be riding.

Man I remember that SCRAP contest. I remember dropping in and doing a backwards-360-nosepick and heard the crowd just freak out so I flew-out and looked around wondering if Miron had dropped in on me and done something big over the spine. Haha! I had no idea people would be into it.
That Lake Owen contest was great. So many good riders. Taj was fairly new to the scene and did some really crazy stuff that blew peoples minds!
That was Freimuth who yelled that in Style Cats. It was in Germany and I had a terrible sprained ankle at the time. The bar-endo bar-spin was always one of my favorite tricks. I finally learn to do them as a 360 over a spine a few years after Style Cats. I had a great time at the Bar-b-que! I'm working on my foot-down skills for next year!

I am holding a footdown boot camp in Roctober, it will cover:
- Strike force battle combat
- Preparing your steed for battle
- Doping
- Drinking to win
- Disaster recovery
- $50 per person, cash or PayPal, PP preffered, questionable results

I remember your 540's. Seems you usually did them halfway up, and used your coaster brake when you landed. Did you ever figure those out?

You're talking about when I still rode vert back in the mid-late 80's. If you can call riding an 8 foot quarter riding vert anymore.
Are you asking if I can still do them or if I ever managed to get over the coping?

I remember in the mid late 80's, they were mid way up with coaster landing. Even at the 2 -hip event in Le Suer, you used the coaster on the landing.
I guess, what is your highest one, and can you still do them pretty good, or at all?

I guess my highest one was at a KOV in Colorado which was around 4 feet out on a 12 foot ramp from what I remember. The problem in the 80's was there was nowhere to ride indoors so when things like the KOV or MFS contests happened in the winter you almost had to learn to ride vert all over again in practice. I sure I can still whip them but last Saturday was the first time I've even rode ramps for a year or so.
I spend most of my time riding street in Downtown St. Paul or the U of M. It's much harder nowadays since security is fierce at the U.

So how is your riding. You still know alot of your old stuff? Still know how to shred a mini? How often do you ride? Still keep in touch with Standard at all?
What's up with all they're racing stuff, seems you hear more about they're racing procucts than freestyle.

Oh sure I can still do a lot of my old stuff. My jumping ability is pretty much dead though. Not like it was ever great to begin with! Once I get out to a park for a few days in a row things like the backward stuff come back to me fairly quick.
As for Standard I really don't hear much except for what other people tell me. I still really respect Rick and everything he's done but we've both got our own ambitions as those don't always meet up between two people.
Rick has always had a hard on for racing. Racing of any kind. If you've ever had the chance to ride in one of his Mustang's at break-neck speed through the streets of Davenport and then peel your fingernails out of the dashboard and look over at the smile on his face you can see he loves speed. He was a racer first and in my opinion he really respects and admires the sport. I look at it as he's going back to his roots as a BMX racer and it's exciting for him.
I'm bummed that the skatepark we were at is closing. It was close to my work. I hope they reopen again otherwise I'll have to go another winter riding flatland in the garage!
