Just found an ad that states that the FST frame and fork are "4130 Chromoly tubing throughout" it was in the February 1985 issue of BMXA page 5.So that puts the debate to rest.At least for the early FST frames!

I didn't think this was still being debated. I believe the question at hand is - do the later fst/fsx's have chromoly forks!
Now, that is the question.

Oh yeah, that's still being debated.
Thanks for that. That is the first "proof" anyone has provided that any year FST was all chromoly. Somebody also stated that the 86+ models were all chromoly even though the ads state trimoly and the brochures are ambiguous. About that I'm still a non-believer.

Yeah last I remember people were all insisting they were only TRI-MOLY.

Do you have any copies of the TRI-MOLY ads?

There used to be a 1986 ad on
www.oldharo.com but I don't think that site exists any more.

If you look at the catalogs over at AJK they specify the following later FST forks are chromo.
1986,1987,1988
I never heard anybody debate this fact before?

Most trimoly bikes had chromoly forks. I don't recall any that had mild steel.

I stand corrected - I was under the impression that they were hi-tensile steel forks on the later (after 86) FST/X's.

When did bike companies start using Hi-Ten? I know the new school trimoly bikes are made with hi-ten, but I always remember the old school trimoly frames being made from chromoly and mild steel, not hi-ten.

For the FST I was under the impression that 85 and 86 were full 4130 while 87 and later were tri-moly.

pjbaz that's what I thought as well. There was no certain documentation shown before. Now we know the 1984 and 1985 were full chromo at least.

check the 1986 Haro catalog over at AJK. FST that year was TRI-MOLY.

Chris (MR CB) is right it states "TRI MOLY" frame for the 1986 FST in the catalog. But I have heard that the very early 86' FST may have been full chromo????No documentation at present confirming this so we will just assume that all 86's are TRI MOLY.

my rep back then told me that he thought some of the early 1986 FSTs were built with carry-over 1985 frames. on a similar note, he also believed that some early 1985 FSTs were built on leftover 1984 sport frames.
