bicyclelady apparently didn't know the value of her item.

bicycle lady has been selling them left and right for that price (the last one sold for $7.50 without the BIN) and has an assortment of colors, I can't seem to figure out how that particular seat shot up so high, I stopped watching it after $25 myself.

The only thing I can see would be the word "HUTCH" in the auction title. But no one is THAT gullible...are they?

Usually Tricktops don't bring that kind of money. They go for about 20 to 25 tops.

The other one is mint. I'd pay $80 for mint, If I really wanted to restore NOS

Promotion - the fourth "P" of marketing.
Selling and marketing anything is all about the small things that makes one thing more attractive than another. You must grab the buyer's attention and keep it long enough to make them think they want to buy your item.
Bicyclelady's pictures are bad compared to the other auction. The seat in her picture that she repeats over and over again (as she re-lists them) appears "chalky" or not very black. The other auction has a clear picture that makes the seat look in much better condition even though they are both NOS. Remember perception is reality for the would-be buyer.
Bicyclelady doesn't get more for her seats because she's forever listing another one after the last one sold. The perpection in the buyer's eyes is that there is an endless supply of these seats. She repeats the exact same auction and the exact same pictures everytime. She would honestly make more if she didn't list them sequentially and she changed the pictures from time to time.
I see it time and time again. Someone sells a set of Radkaps for $500.00 so then everyone begins selling Radkaps expecting to get the same. But once the Ebay market is temorarily "flooded" with Radkaps the prices all take a nose dive.
Remember, all it takes is 2 really motivated people to drive a price up.

Original seat guts may have added a little value, not sure. There's so many variables.. time of day the auction ends, photos/description/marketing, two guys in a bidding war, etc., etc., etc.

I can't believe that seat went that high! Black seem to be the rarest color though.
It's just sooo ugly.......

I've noticed the Trick Tops with the Hi-Caliber lettering seem to go for more than the non-lettered ones but still, that particular auction seems to be a simple case of "auction fever" gone wrong.
