Full Version: How bad are these chewed drop outs? :-(

Hi peeps.

My first BMX was a Super Burner that my parents bought for me 2nd hand. My friend helped remind me of this the other day. This started a search for old school BMX. :-)

I've just bought what I think is either a 1984 or 85 Haro after not owning a BMX for a long time.

I thought it would be in better condition than it was when it arrived. So I'm gonna have to do some resto.

In my haste to build it with my friend when I received it, I think I've made a really really big mistake! :-(

When we put the wheels on, we used the nuts that were on the axles WITHOUT a washer and I think this has contributed to chewing up my drop outs further.

Please can any of you help me and give me any suggestions as to what I can do to restore these?

Will this damage weaken the drop outs badly?

Do you think I have messed these up big time or am I being paranoid?

Any comments greatly appreciated. Please help because I am gutted and I wanted to make this a top build.

I am located in the UK. If anyone here thinks they could repair this please let me know your price via private message.

I am also wondering anyones suggestions for respraying/repainting and restoring the sticker set. Do you think I would be better off stenciling?

Sorry in advance for my first post having so many questions. I'll get some better pictures of the frame later!

Thank you.

if its not going to be an ultra bling show bike, i would just carefully touch them in with white matching paint , and add the washers that should have been there to begin with, they dont look nearly as bad as most dropouts i have seen !!

The frame and fork is a 84 sport ,Depending on what you are doing with it ,depends on what you should do with it.
I'm in the UK if you want any info ....pm me.

Thanks for your comments peeps.

I don't feel as worried anymore so I am just gonna let restoration continue. :-) Will have a think about what to do next.

My mate has just cleaned up the white Haro tyres for me so they are looking brighter!

Now I gotta try unbuckling the Skyways in the freezer. :-)

Also, gonna spend some time on the chrome parts with some Autosol.

Will remember those settings for next time! I was actually using the light off my phone as the flash was too much from my camera.
