I was reading another thread recently about re-painting old parts to look nos, and it got me to thinking about how alot of us bitd would mix-n-match parts, or just put some crazy add-on, on our bikes. So I was wondering what kind of stuff u guys would throw on your rides bitd? For me personally, I use to use "pencil tops" for my valve caps. I had Garfield on one wheel and Odie on the other, lol. Sometimes i'd switch it off with a Smurf or two, lol. I know, really cheesy! But hey, it was the 80's, lol.

SAME HERE!! I used to chop the heads off of Smurfs, hollow out their scrawny lil necks and stuff valve covers in there! Thanks for the flashback!

I had a plastic gumby superglued to the top of my stem for a while.

I knew a guy that had a naked barbie glued to his stem. (he was a little "off")

I also rode with a bell on my seatpost. It would ring if I did a trick and landed hard.

Plus it was fun to ride up really quiet behind some old person and at the last second ring the bell really loud as you skidded the rear tire and screamed...

I always put a Town & Country Surf decal on everybike.

Even on my new race bike I have a T & C decal.

Lots of grip tape.... dirt and sweat. Occasional blood stain.

Chris... long time, no see.
I did the garfield reflectors on my spokes. They came in cereal bitd. We also stole spokey dokes off little kids bikes and put a few of them on ours... what else... oh yeah, I hung a set of fuzzy dice off my cw fs bars for a little while. Lots and and lots of stickers.

Lots of stickers. Stormtrooper Star Wars figures attached with zip ties. Sometimes a Jawa, but mostly a stormtrooper. Once in a while a Swatch around my front hub. That would get a little annoying though, but I did it.

coke or pepsi on the rims to make the brakes grab real good.....

i built my own bash guard in 87 or so, cut up band steel a 2x4 and hose clamps

tons of stickers

when i ran tuffs, i put the smoother grip tape on the sidewalls for braking power.....

i remember something about gumby, but i think i put his friend horse on my tuffs once

Ahh yes, the Swatch watch. Great stuff guys! Although not sure what to think about the barbie, LOL. Does anyone remember those "twirly" shoe lace looking things that came in different colors? I use to wrap those around my cables out over the front of my bars, lol. I remember on my first day of school I rode my brand new Mongoose Expert to show off, I had the cables loaded with those things! Well, when I came out at the end of the day every single one was gone. They even took my seat post with the seat still attached! LOL.

Yea, I remember the Coke and Pepsi trick. I think someone even told me to try Sprite once, lol. I remember this kid that lived in the neighborhood who rode a hot pink GT PFT, really good rider. His dad invented this stuff called Gripper, almost like nail polish remover, Worked great for breaking! I also like those Dyno brake guards. A cool looking add on, but I kept breaking them off.

now a days instead of soda we use simple green...thats the trick.

...swatch around the coaster brake..and the manditory Rockvile bmx sticker (early 80s) then the manditory Club Homeboy sticker (late 80s)
cycleace
Me and my friends use to take 45 records and use em for ultra cool standout style on our rear wheels between either the coasterbrake cog or freewheel on the rear hubs as sorta really trick spoke protectors.

the obligatory tennis ball in the spokes.

did the swatch watch around my brake cables at the stem.

covered my dyno drainpipe seat post with that corragated plastic tubing. you know the kind if you spin it fast in the air it whistles.

1 inch pvc on the short GT pegs, easier to stand on and used for peg grinds.

homeboy sticker & Go sticker.

We used to hammer in a set of those old knurled gt pegs or skyway pegs into a set of old gt tube rides to make them longer.

That helped your shoes not to get those holes at peg length...

Anyone remember Tioga Roll-On pegs?! What a terrible idea, lol.

I once had a optimus prime keychain attatched to the right side of my handlebars and a velcro strap attatched to the left side.

Ah, I once ran the chainwheel that was painted up like a swatch watch. I also ran the pool filter hose around the seatpost. I think I saw Eddie Fiola do that.

I once found a whole roll of $.79 cent stickers, 1.5" circles, the kind stores would use to mark down bread, chips and stuff. I had those stickers all over my bike, inside the head tube, bottom bracket, spokes, under the clear Jive Handle grips.
Lookin' back I should have made a mohawk helmet like Fiola's.

For a short time, I had some pull-ties on my spokes where they over-laped. I made some rear dropout plates to cover the whole plate to make them stronger (...not like I ever broke anything back there...)
