Tomorrow i will get my 1991 PFT back. I sold it back in the day and now i found it after so many years. It has the U break under the frame like the older 80's frames. What is the smallest chainwheel i can run ? I use to run a lower break like a Diatech and a 17 T on the coaster.

What is the smallest chainwheel you can find? I think that'll answer your question.
I haven't seen many 90s PFTs on this site. Not very popular but I love my 92. Timo has one too.

The smallest you can probably go would be 36/14 or13 before the chain starts to hit the brake.
Just so you know, khe now makes a 20t chainwheel, but you need their cranks, other wise the smallest is 23t, but you need the brakes on the s.s. to run it.

I own a Khe 20 th. on a Hindenburg and it dont works. I run my break UNDER the frame. I think it work with 34 or so but i'm not sure. I bought that frame for 30 $ and also a Bullseye crank in 165 mm with bearrings for 30 $. It was like christmas...

You have to remember the chain "jiggle" too, it might clear, but it will bounce around and hit it during riding.

Unless you are really wanting a small sprocket for flatland, or simply like the ride, you should stick around a 40T. I think your safe with that size.

I weldet the U-plugs on the seatstays. Null problemo.
