thanks to hudson i now have myself another kick arse oddball frameset. a gen 1 mcs styler.

what colors did these bad boys come in originally?
87HAROMASTER
from what i remember..i think they only made chrome ones...i do remember white, but im pretty sure that was the gen 2. i know the gen 2's came in black and white at least, possibly chrome too.
donvader
I think I've only seen Gen 1's in chrome, and I have a gen 2 in black. I've seen a couple different colors of sticker sets on them though, so there may be more colors. Here's mine:

I'm pretty sure I've seen stickers on a totally rusted out one that said Styler in green, and Iknow Jeff (Bedlam bikes) has a chrome gen 1 with different colored stickers than mine.
Hudson
i'ved seen green stickers and yellow/red stickers
donvader
I also found this picture that someone put up a long time ago. Used as a rider, this was probably a custom job, but you never know.

Brian P
freakin blyther and that tennis ball trend!

what is that, a gen 1 frame and gen 2 forks? pretty sick looking rider.... kinda like how i would've rode a bike BITD

i think im gonna go painted instead of chrome...the chrome decals might look good on a painted frame
Not Eddie Roman
That was mine—I got it secondhand, so I don't know about the paintjob. It sure looked factory. The lower stays were already hacksawed off when I got it. The forks are Hutch Trickstar IIs that I got as warranty replacement for a bent pair of original Trickstar (no pegs, doublethick drops) forks. Western H Hutch stem, regular Peregrine 48s, Barefeet tires, Odyssey Leading Edge saddle, some sort of steel GT repro bars, Takagi 175s (I'm pretty sure), Grafight Xs, ODI John Tomac grips. I was riding that thing around 1990—terrifying!

The frame had horrible geometry, but beautiful welds. All 100 of them.

1st gen. models are traditionally chrome plated. However, I have an original spec on the bike stating "chrome or unplated for any rad color" so you can paint it any color desired. I'd like to see one painted up especially in '84 colors (white, black, red, or yellow).

Build it big!
jerry a hutcher
vader i love them drum brakes on that styler...slick!!
donvader
Thanx! Lou built those up and I bought them from him. The were for a CW, but I thought they'd be pretty cool on there, something different.
Bedlam Bikes
Chrome is the only color I've seen them in.
The second gens had several colors including the nasty "paint splatter"...
Smokin Endo
Not sure on the frame colors but here are a few different decal layouts they offered

Brian P
i'll take that 40 bux and 1 set of decals please
twintoptuber
Endo,

Make sure you hook Brian up with a set of 2nd generation decals so we can all snicker behind his back after he reveals the new build.

:::: kidding ::::
Smokin Endo

Don't worry Bri ! I have a set here for you, I just have to see what colors are left still ?

James... you should be ashamed of yourself !

K i need an education...whats the diff between first and second gen decals?
twintoptuber
Hudson,

The first generation came out in 1984 and the second generation came out around late '85/'86, lol.

There's a script difference as well as size/setup. Brian, can you do a side by side for easy comparison? The sets on the right in his pic are first generation.
Smokin Endo
sure but your wrong LOL

They are the same but the ones for the first gen just have a few extra Styler by MCS decals for the extra chain stays

1st gen

2nd gen

Also I was lead to believe that the 1st gen was 85 and the second was 86 ?
twintoptuber
Here's a side by side with original decals,

Let me do another comparison because there's a difference in lightning bolts.
Bedlam Bikes
I'm with Brian on this:

1st Gen came out in 85.
Second in 86...
twintoptuber
Jeff, are you still hitching to the idea of only a few select bikes available in 1984 (Haro, Hutch, GT)?

You're both wrong, it was available in 1984.
Brian P
hey hudson, can we get a pic of yours from the front (headtube) but also showing the left (drive) side decals?
Hudson
Here you go. Confusing issue we have here. I see what Twin is saying about the different lightning bolt designs. One has a single prong top (his Gen 1), while the other has a three prong top (his gen 2). However, my Gen 1 (which was nos) has the 3 prong bolt design on it. I also have an original condition gen 2 which also has the 3 prong design. Somebody bust out the little ad for the gen1....

Bedlam Bikes
Mine's for sale if anyone is interested in it.

1st gen dual chainstays.
Chrome is in decent shape. No chipping, just has some surf tarnish/rust and some scratches, etc...
I'd give it a 7.5 on a 1-to-10 scale.

New decals and NOS lavender beartrap II headset are included.
PM me if interested.

you guys should talk to bmxerpete here on vintage he is the one who desined and built it at mcs....he is a member here Jerry you know him ...he is a member of the southern faction... i belive he has the proto type frame .....Rob
Bedlam Bikes
Cool..he should remember the year 1985 then!! lol

I have the ad with the little kid doing a modified Miami Hopper on it. (man that kid was awful)
I also have the issue of BMX Plus where they show a "spy" photo of it before it came out. Now that I finally have a scanner, I can scan these tonight.
lou
Does anybody have a ragged one? My daughter likes the frame. I need to do one in black and pink. Didn`t James have one in that color combo? I think thats the one she wants.
