donvader, Is this one of the frames that Stephen powdered Hazard Yellow? Are you leaving it or changing the color? Is this an 85 with the straight rear platform inner supports?
donvader
Yeah, it's one he did. I got it from someone else though. I think it was "darkside racerx" on here if I'm not mistaken. It was a few years back, just a project he never got to or something and I made an offer for it. I was always planning on leaving it yellow, I'll have to check on the rest at home and maybe finally get a new pic or two. (I'm at work now). Most of the stuff I want for it can be pretty pricey, so it's a project I've been putting off too. I did pick up a nice set of forks for it though. It was funny, before I got this I never realized about the longer head tube. I went to put some other Redline forks on it and was like, oops, that's not going to work, lol. I just never had one bitd.

Sheesh, other ppl build redlines? Keep the drive alive, and stay tuned!

Hey Don, I just looked through my BMX pictures and found this shot of Stephen's Redlines. It looks like your frame on the floor next to the complete Hazard Yellow. The yellow goes a bit further on the chain stays.

donvader
That's cool to find it in another pic. Yeah, I can see that. I bet that's it then. Kind of weird seeing it in someone else's house, with their bikes. I'll check anyway when I get home in the morning.

I always wanted a red one. I think those are the best of all the colors.

Thanks bud. I took some inspiration from his bike (specifically the newer style chainwheel) when I built mine, and we shared a few stories on our build a few years back. You should have seen this thing before I had it restored!

Props to everyone else's bikes as well, some sweet RL's posted up here.

That is an 88 with the 990 mounts. Very nice. The stem come with it, or did you have that?
Larryboy
Man, where did RedlineJ (Jack) go? He had the most awesome collection of RL20IIs I've ever seen. Flawless. Every one of them, and he had a bunch.

Sweet. I'm no Redline expert. I have an 88, that I thought was an 89 till I found out 88 was the last year they made them. LOL.

Redline RL20-II bikes with 990 mounts underneath the seatstays are 1988 models.
The bottom brackets were made and dated before the rest of the bikes were assembeled.
My 1988 RL has a 1987 s/n on the bb also.

Radlad,

Your FS880 at the top of page 2 (if you still have it) used to be mine. The frame that is. Did I sell it to you or did you buy it from someone else?
bcrad89
To all of you who have responded to my message, THANK YOU! Thought this pic would make some chuckle. This is my original 85 RL-20 I am restoring. It is so exciting to see all your bikes. I am very jelous of the 20II's. I couldn't mow enough yards to afford one when I got mine. It was originally Radberry with hot pink Peregrine's.
Spicoli
BUMP !!!

A whole lotta nice RLs lately....they should join the club !

Hey Subwax, you should post the fleet 88s and 84s....

Missed this when it was posted huh.gif . I got the frame and fork from a member here in '06 - pswhind, I think was his screen name. I know it has been thru a few people's hands here.

The thing was a TANK, but rode smooth. I traded the frame and forks to my brother for his '87 Pro Performer with very used Super Pros and kneesavers. I'll check the serial number and let you know.

Hi Glenn,

Is it a trick of the light, or do the bars and stem look a lighter colour than the frame?

Very good question. They are actually different, here's the scoop. The stem is NOS ( I had two, one you bought ) so I had the bars painted here to an exact match of the stem. The frame I had powdered by CHIP. There is a difference. When I spoke to CHIP, he said his powder is an exact match to NOS Redline turquoise as well. He offered to powder my bars and stem as well, but when you look at the bike, you cant really pick up the dirrerence ( In pictures it really seems to be a different shade ) So the questions is why two shaed of NOS Redline turquoise? Well it seems that there might actually be more than two shades of turquoise. I have really noticed it with the RADBERRY bikes that are on various sites, you see sooooo many different shades of RADBERRY, I guess the QC at the Redline colour factory, might not have been as good as we thought. Bottom line, is that when you look at the bike it is really hard to tell the difference, Some day I might have Chip power it yellow instead, so its not that big of a deal. I know you have some stuff at CHIP's so you might want to call him on it. Hope that helps

Hey Glenn - I had one of the original Turquoise RL 20 II's with no chrome on the chain/seat stays or fork. It was solid turquoise and definitely looked more like the your current frame color. Of course, I'm not looking at this in person, but from the picture, it looks like the frame is correct and the bars and stem are slightly off. Still one really sweet bike though! Could it be that the 2 different colors of turquoise are a result of different year models???

Are you saying it came from the factory like this?
Hmmm...
O.G. RL20-II
here is a pic I found, compared to this one it seems chips is a little darker unsure.gif

crowe-t
Chip's color is a bit darker, but he said he hasn't been able to find an unfaded sample of Turquoise to have it custom matched. If someone could send Chip an unfaded Turquoise frame or bars he can have the color made up. I'm sending Chip a set of Radberry Forklifter bars to have the correct color made. These bars are the later 'darker' Radberry color that is closer to the color of the Radberry stems.
subwax
Chip has now got the stem that Glenn sent him - a NOS teal forklifter stem. Lets see if he can match that.

Its worth pointing out that Chip's colour might be correct for a later teal frame, for instance. I didnt want this to be about bashing Chip at all, and I dont want it to look like that to the casual reader.
crowe-t
Neil - If someone can send Chip a frame or bars that would better. The Turquoise stems are a slightly different color then the frames and bars. This is definitely not about bashing Chip. Chip is a great guy who is willing to help out as much as possible. In fact I'm sending Chip a set of NOS (Darker)Radberry bars so he can have the correct color made for 86/87 Redlines. biggrin.gif
Nighthawk
Forklifter stems are not a good thing to match to. They are always a different color than the bars or frames. the turquoise ones were darker and more blue if I remember right. I don't know if this was a result of the different material they were made out of (aluminum vs. cromoly steel) or if they were done by a different supplier or what. If I had a set of original finish bars or a frame, I'd send it to Chip; unfortunately I don't have anything. I don't think the aqua color varied much through the years, Radberry is really the main culprit with color shifts.
crowe-t
I agree with Nighthawk about the Turquoise color. I have an 85 Turquoise RL20 and used to have an 86 Turquoise RL20A. The color was the same on both of these. Radberry seems to be the color that changed. The earlier Radberry was more pink-ish and in 86 it is closer to the color of the stem, almost a match but a bit lighter.

The Turquoise stems do have more blue in the color and maybe slightly darker or at least thats how they appear. For what it's worth if you didn't have the stem next to a frame it looks like the same color.
O.G. RL20-II
Mike what kind of pegs are those on the 85 I posted?
crowe-t
Ernie, They almost look like 88 Redline fork pegs but I'm pretty sure the 88 pegs don't fit 85 forks. Maybe they are axle pegs. Do you have another picture of that bike you posted?
Nighthawk
They're not the 88 pegs, most likely they are another brand peg screwed onto a piece of 3/8" axle that is then in turn screwed into the fork.
