Does anyone know what thread count the peg bosses are in my fork? I'd like to try the cut axle trick with Skyway pegs I've heard about.
Redline fork pegs are 24 TPI. Use a coasterbrake axle.

No, those are 86 forks with lower peg holes that are small. The 88's have larger peg holes.

Sorry, 85-87 fork pegs are 24TPI. The same as coasterbrake and old school tuff wheel axles. I never owned an 88 so I can't speak for that.

80% ofall the RL20II's I have picked up have had the paint removed - was it the trend BITD to strip the paint, orwas it something that was done when the chips and scratches in the paint became too much? Its a real shame, I have got 3 original hazard yellow frames, and all that is left is the paint in the bottom bracket - gutted!!!

I had a couple of RL 20-II's BITD and I did strip the Radsberry one own to chrome when the chips and scratches in the paint made it look pretty dab. Actually, the beat up look that I didn't want is the same look that kids today do want - LOL.

It's probably due to the relative poor adhesion that the paint had on the chrome frames, many just chose to strip them down to chrome when they started getting beat up. I'm also guessing that when the color craze was over in the late 80s, that a lot of peeps that still rode their old RLs probably stripped them down...It was hard to be cool on a pink or green bike when Nervana was topping the charts ! Ahhh, the 90s, didnt they suck ?
Pretty much the same deal on with the 2 tone Haros...
As great as all RLs look in color, I always thought the 20 IIs looked best "blingin" in chrome...

Feb 11 2009, 01:44 AM
I remember in 87 when the General Osborn Pro and Blood Pro came out a lot of guys stripped the top tubes on Redlines, Haro's... and made them look like the Generals. The paint back in the 80's didn't adhere well to the chrome plating. Maybe if they were powder coated back then it would have held up better.

I know one of you can tell me what year mine is. I made a number plate for my race bars and want to put the year as the number, like 85, 86 whatever, I just want to get the right ones on. Here's a couple pix of the cable guide and rear stands. I know there were differences in those but I don't remember when. The serial number is kind of hard to see. Does 512513 sound like any others? If there's anything else to it it's covered. Anyway, can anyone tell me the year of this?

It's not from a spray can. I have a nephew that works at a body shop and he had some "school bus yellow" paint. I took my fork decals from AJK Bikes in and he sprayed an old seatpost so I could see how it matched when the paint dried. If there is a difference, I can't see it. I am going to start on a Radberry 880 next week.

Here is an 85 RL20 & an 85 RL20II that I had powdered by Chip at C4. The decals are NOS and the fork decals are the earlier 'lemon' yellow color which is why the frame is darker.

Sup guys i'm new here. i finally found a website where people have the same taste as i do. I too have a Redline that i am restoring, though it isn't as nice as everybody's bikes here, i hope some of you might like it. a friend gave me this bike several months ago. he didnt want it because he doesnt ride bikes, plus it was sitting out in the weather dying. when i got this bike it was DULL and partly rusted over. i grabbed a vintage looking bottle of "brasso" that i found in the garage. the bottle is probably 15+ yrs old. haha. i ordered some parts and little by little i made this lovely thang...
the only original parts of the bike that i have yet replace since i got this bike are: the handlebars, the seat, the fork, and that cheap stem, which i took off my neice's bike HAHA.
This is a Redline "Trimoly" i am not sure what year it is. probably 1985.

I have two sets of the original 88 decals with the kiwi (green) printed letters. Remember too, that both the Mango and the Kiwi colored bikes had either color matched lettering or inverted colored lettering. Generally speaking, in most cases that I have seen, the one with the inverted colors are the later produced. Early production have the matching lettering.
