Does anyone remember the Haro Master bars that were the 1987 and 3/4 to 88.
The bars were only offered on the Haro Team Master and not the Team Sport. The bars got alot of attention and Haro some how changed the jig settings for these bars when they became available as a seperate item because they were in such high demand.
McCoy rode they original version of these bars that were really tight and close to the stem with a lower cross bar.
Anyone have pictures of these?

Could these be the bars you're referring to:

I bought them separately in late '88. For comparison, they have lower crossbar than any of the Kneesavers or Q-Bars i've ever ridden. Very comfortable, extremely light and functional. The white paint at the bottom has actually a pearly shine, not basic white. My first "pro" bars, still have them.

No, they were the 1st Kneesavers Haro made. I don't know how many of them went out on the Team Master though, but I sure would like to know.

So they were 4pc then? I'll keep an eye out, but I'd have to know how to spot the difference from the more common ones.

87 bikes came with 2 piece bars. Knees savers didn't come out til the 88's.
I seem to recall Haro bars did change like the seasons though. Not sure why but there always seemed to be tiny differences, either in construction or paint job.
For instance in the 88 catalogue, the team Sport only has pain on the lower half of the bars, but later in the year the bars were 3/4 painted. Only the bar ends were chrome.
Some of the bars on the 86 models had low cross bars too, Blythers Green Sport had white bars that looked smaller than usual, so maybe the early 87's were 86 bars with the new paint job to run out the stock.

I brought a similiar question up yesterday with a friend. There appears to be a several pairs of kneesavers that have different heights in the crossbar.
I bought a NOS set recently that had the crossbar up about 1.5 inch rise above the bend.

This one starts about 1 inch above the bend.

I've seen some with the crossbar set right where the bend starts.

Of course the racing bar has the crossbar set around 4.5 inches above the bend.

Question:
How many different versions of the kneesaver where there?

my kneesaver's cross bar is on the bend like the 3rd pic. those are the 90's versions and imo the best for flatland.

They were released pre 88 (november or December), but they were 88's and only a handfull of Team Masters went out with them. The color was mint green only and I remember them because I was upset when I received my kneesavers and they were much different than my friends off his Master and McCoy's.

I remember seeing a picture of some kneesavers in a Haro Advert about 8 years ago, where the bar ends and top tube were one piece and the bottom section still made up of 3 tubes. Odd.
Maybe that was to counter the problem of the bar ends snapping off.

The 88 catalog has these on the Team Master:

And the RS-1 has these:

Close but the cross bar was lower and they were painted all the way up pass the cross bar. Must be rare.

Right where the bars would bend is where the crossbar was. The ones you have are the same bars McCoy rode on his black GT.

I have a set of Haro Kneesaver bars that I was curious about for sometime. They are different from all of the other designs I seen. A friend of mine gave them to me and he told me that he bought them from a bike shop in the late 80's. They seem to be a cross between Haro and Peregrine Kneesaver style bars. They have the Haro Chevrons stamped and the cross bar is lower then any of the other Kneesavers I have. Also the rise is 8" with width of 28" end to end with no knurls in the middle of the cross bar. Also tubing is oval on the sides(middle tubing in between bottom tube and cross bar tube). Almost like Wizard Web's description of 3 tubes on the bottom. Top of bars are like the top of GT Performer bars. Bars are chromed, but may have been painted when they first came out. I'll be glad if someone can post pics for me so you can see for yourself. Also like to add that these bars are real light, and made with thin tubing. Maybe thats why they stopped making them. Just like the first Generation GT Performer bars I broke a set back then just doing a bunny hop 360, and didn't trust a set ever since.
