Earl is not a very cool dude. All he cares about is money and ripping people off!

This comes up every once and a while. Earl is a good guy, ecentric but a good guy. Most around here that have dealt with him in the past have had good dealings via ebay and outside of ebay. At the moment, he's just showing us what he has...testing the 'market' as well.

I'm really glad people here are as tweaked as I am about the $3500 price on that thing. Dude is high.

I'm with oldschoolrider on this one. Earl "advertises" on Ebay. Just like the rest of us, he prefers to make side deals off of Ebay to avoid the never ending fees. I've bought plenty of good stuff off the dude. Does he want top dollar? Most definitely. Does he have stuff others can't even imagine? That and then some. Does he reserve the right to ask whatever he wants for something he kept sealed in a box for OVER 20 YEARS? Yep. Is that price for the GHP totally out of control? Sure is... But don't be suprised by the fact that there are a few collectors in this hobby where $3500 means nothing to them. Even if one of these guys were to offer him $2K for the GHP after the auction ended, he might take it. Fishing the market...just like Oldschool said.
There are 300,000,000 people in the United States. How many of them kept an entire shop of bikes and parts sealed in boxes that long?
That we know of, one. Just one single person.
His name is Earl.

The sad fact is - no matter what he charges it's a losing proposition for him. Holding inventory is so expensive in business. He's been holding these items for over 20 years!
He's lucky there's a market for the items he still has a stock of.
I also find his $3,500 ads on Ebay annoying. If he would just do a little research he would understand the hype around a " no reserve" auction ALWAYS nets a larger final price - with very few exceptions.
By listing items at a high BIN price and then listing them again in a regular auction he's deflating his own prices.
Earl is both intelligent and foolhearty at the same time. I've dealt with him outside of Ebay and I didn't have any problems.

The thing that annoys me about his 'marketing strategy' is that (and someone else brought this up before) he puts an item up with no reserve and a .99 starting bid.... the item gets bid up to $76 at the end....(let's just say GT Epoch headsets) in the next week, he'll list another identical headset with a starting bid of $80....
It may seem obvious to think that if you're willing to pay $76 for something, you'll easily fork over the extra $4 if you didn't win one for $76. The fact of the matter is.... people get desperate in the final minutes of ebay auctions, and they bid higher than they normally would have to begin with. I've been there, we've all been there. If he would stick to his no reserve auctions with low starting bids, it'll draw more attention and make more desperate fools out of ebayers. I know I, for one, would pay more attention to his auctions if they started low. Because, I'm like anyone, if I can get something for even a few dollars cheaper, I'll do it.
Heck, he MIGHT get $3,500 for the GHP... not but if the starting bid is that high. He should start it low and let the battling bidders compete.

the prices may be a bit high, but to me it's cool knowing that stuff is out there, perfect and still like ma used to make....so to speak. There will always be better deals, but for the person willing to pay, those are some one of a kind parts.
Love the Green too...

Again...we all saw his dayglo pink 86 NOS sell for 325 in a no reserve...wtf with the green...put it up at no reserve...thats a $400 frame...on its best day. NOS 85 master still only get 450 and they sit on websites and get offered as trade bait ALL DAY LONG.
Guess the pink one musta been a fluke huh? I think someone paid tons of cash for his nos 84 in yellow and now thats the going rate....
