This is Jamie Wright's idea. I am just going to start it.
I know there are some old school people in here who either have been riding throughout the years or are just getting back into it, like me.
Lets log progress our whatever you may be working on.
Last night I rode for almost an hour. Here is what I did.
-Swivels
-Forward Swivels--finally pulled one after 20 or 30 tries
-Hang 5s
-Whiplashes
-Funky Chickens
-Backyards
-Firehydrants
I tired firehydrant to decade maybe 10 times and never pulled it, but I could get around. Maybe tonight?? I hope.

THis has been the Hottest thread on BMX Freestyler!!! I called it TOday Riding.
Yesturday I got a really nice Half Hiker. It was long and smooth. I didn't make my way out of it but it felt like I coasted about 1 1/2 car length. I also did some firehydrant mc circle things. Not very long on the MC Circle part but I keep trying!!
Keep up with the Progression and Posting it!! Others will read and feed off your energy and you will iinturn ride better and post your progression. Its a WIN WIN situation. SO come on....Get ou there and RIDE!!!

at that time i'm about to master some g-string to forward rope a roni and my hang 5 to whiplash to hang 5 sounds good too.
i work hard on a link craig lepage used to do years ago, it' a 180 roll back switch foot into a reverse halflash into forward rope a roni (you can see it in dorkin 4). i'm near to the end but the rope a roni still hard to link after all that .

I rode for like 45 minutes yesterday, mostly just pedaling around the neighborhood and did two things I was kinda psyched on - I did a hop to pedal feeble onto the down-ramp of a loading dock and a footplant on a bank that felt smooth. Brakeless abubaca on the same bank failed to get pulled, but I can do them now when I put my mind to it.

I try and ride every night after work, just mainly getting my old stuff down again, I can still do a majority of it,,,but very very shaky and not so smooth, I am working up the courage to try a Rolade,,,,I loved them BITD, but they are scary as heck for me now,,,,it hurts more when your older and ya fall!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rode for the first time since last August this week. I'm continuing where I left off trying to learn firehydrants. I'm getting the back end to swing around pretty consistently, but I always step off at the last minute.

Jamie Here. Nice work on the thread Sandy. -Sounds like a great way to keep us all motivated..
I rode this past saturday and am concentrating on some new tricks with tips and support from a new riding mate, and a Pro at that...
I've almost gotten down reverse handed steam rollers into tight circles, then either switch feet and ride out, or go into side squeaks. I'm then going to work on going into some flip-the-bar trick, but I don't know how exactly yet. I also am working on half-lash to forward roperoni to back yard in circles and ending it by flipping the bike behind your back and riding out (don't how else to explain this).
I can do elephant glides out of a whiplash pretty consistently now and can go into back packers holding the seat. i now want to learn to grab the back peg and do a full back packer, but haven't gotten it yet. I can do dump trucks pretty consistently (when I don't land flat on my back), but now I need to master the gliding ride out.
I'm riding tommorow night after work in a nice lit Ross parking lot and I'm going to concentrate mastering the switch handed steam rollers (VERY hard trick for me being used to the old way. it honestly feels like a totally different trick).
I'll post progress on Friday!
GREAT POST IDEA!!!

Hang 5
Steamrollers
Whiplashes
Backwards Halfhiker
Mega spins (3 spins MAX)
Over all it was a good day of riding

Last night I did a fire hydrant to wheelchair to funky C to backyard to dicktrick to straddle out. I did a megaspin to backwards wheelie to dump truck to upside down wheelie. I did a frontwheel 540. I did g-turn reverts. I practiced show tricks for today's show.
Then I went to the little skatepark and did some airs, hip jumps both ways. A sideways transfer of about 8 feet, various lip tricks and smith, feeble, double peg, ice pick and tooth pick grinds on both sides of my bike.
Then I rode around and did some wheelies, watched Karate practice, and found a ball and swapped it about 1/8 of a mile back to my truck and then gave it to my kids.

I rode last night too. I didnt start till about 9:15pm so I was already tired from the daily grind, but I wanted to ride. I did my normal stuff trying to get them dialed....
Swivels
Forward Swivels
Hang 5s
Whiplashes
Funky Chickens
Backyards
Firehydrants
I worked on funky chicken to spastic front yard. I also worked on flail boomerangs and boomerankels. I was too beat to attempt decades.
I got really tired around 10pm and headed back to the crib. I was dripping in sweat and am very sore today. I am walking very slow. It feels good though, I am using muscles I have not used in years....I like the workout.
I noticed 2 things last night that were very weird, my cell phone rang while I was riding and I looked down at my hand and saw a wedding ring. Back in the late 80s those two things never happened.
Brett, you may have told us before but I am sort of new here. What shows??? Do you ride for a living?

Rode for about two hours last night. The first hour felt the best and I was smoothest with the tricks. I stuck to a few routines of links and then concentrated on some new goals- Of those goal I pulled:
-Reverse whip lash to hang five
-whiplash to elephant glide to back pack
-switch handed steam roller into side glide
-no handed hang five
I' m trying to learn bar switch hang fives, but I can tell that's going to take a while.

Wulfran- Yeah, I ride everything from flat to vert to racing. I'm no DMC but I am a Plywood Hood if that helps you understand. I told Kevin about your videos. Great riding!
Sandy- I am a full time Mom staying at home with the twins. I could do shows nearly every day but I can't always get my mom to watch the kids when I am out. I also got a summer job teaching dirt jumping at a local summer camp (not woodward) so all the money I make is from riding. Does that make me pro?
Paulie- Watch the seat post clamp when the back end comes around and step on it. You'll get it.

I rode in a little grubby parking lot last night for like three hours going back and forth trying to learn Hang Fives....I finally got the balance point feeling twice really well and rolled for about five or six feet before the rear end fell. That is where I left off in 87'-88' and started riding vert and street, so I'm back to make through that initial frustration rolling flatland tricks gave me back then. I'm gonna learn them...period.
Oh, and my friend Lex and I started working on Jammin' Salmon mini ramp airs...

i came up with some fun ideas i tryed the other day after watching the new school tricks and how they pump the bike to get speed.long ago we tryed to do a simple peg wheelie and only got 3 circles. but with this pumping idea you can do many more. tryed a steamroller but its was difficult so i did a halflash rolling backwards and it worked awsome 12 circles and got dizzy no scuffing only pumping the bike maybe you guys can use this into some of your moves.other than being 45 lbs heavier it was fun..

Today I finally completed building a bike that I think I'll be able to learn tricks with. My other ride was WAY too heavy. I also put to use my light blue tuffs finally.
Within about 3 tries, I ALMOST completed my first tailwhip ever. I've also realized that a steeper headtube angle would help more.
I gave it about 2 more tries until I had to tighten the headset and straighten the seat. It's 90 degrees here now, so I think I'm done for the day... it's not a dry heat either.

After a 20 year hiatus, I just got back into riding last week.
So, while very lame in comparison to some of you, I managed to ride a wheelie for 100 feet, and re-perfected the front brake endo.
It's a start, right?

Well, I'll just report on yesterday.
I took my mtn bike out the NID ditch next to the house, um, four times yesterday, riding for speed and hucking myself off of this one big rock about halfway out (it's about a 300 yard long path next to the ditch, give or take... never measured), riding wheelies, and doing the front wheel 180 to rollback thing.
When I got tired of going out there, I ended up picking up my non-flatland bike (the Nyquist) and practicing rockwalks without a front brake for a while. Came very close to tweaking my back, but didn't. So then I practiced bunnyhopping into abubacas on curb-high rocks just to get used to hopping and then placing the back tire in a specific spot. I also cussed at badly-installed brakes not grabbing painted rims (installed by me, nobody to blame). Then I jumped off a foot-high dirt mound until I could clear ten feet of distance... because I'm not all that used to jumping.
Then I came inside and ended up finding a website for an ABA track in Marysville that looks really, really sedate.

Rode tonight for about three hours with the local old guys (like me) Wayne and Chip. We rode at a new spot at a local elementary school. The local cop dropped by after we were there for while and was cool with us riding. The thing that got me was that the officer's baby face was a givaway that he was easily 5 or ten years younger than me and the other guys!!! Ha!
-Not a lot of energy in the ride tonight- just a casual, holiday-paced session. I did manage to figure out the balance secret to wheel chairs though, and I can cruise them freely now.- I just need to figure out a good way to go in out of the trick!

Not that I can do this, but you could try doing a funky chicken, then step on the tire and step your other leg over the bars... does that sound plausible?
After complaining the other day, I was finally able to get out for a couple small flatland sessions today. This morning, I had on the wrong shoes, and had a really short session while waiting for a truck to get out of the road so I could get back to the house... fifteen minutes, tops. Surprised myself by hitting a fire hydrant into a backwards hang 5. Sadly, was unable to duplicate it.
This evening, I decided to break in the new Visions and headed back down. Got in about an hour's worth of riding... just dicking around, really. Was able to duplicate my feat from earlier one time, but subsequent tries again failed. Hit some other stuff passably (passable for me, anyways) and a young person on a horse watched me fall and/or step off the bike about eight times, and probably heard me cursing at myself. I'm so out of practice, and there's nobody to blame but myself.
But I still had fun, and the shoes are nicely functional.

Yesturday was a good day for riding. I didnt make alot of BIG steps just little ones. I was able to coast a double footed steam with one hand on the seat much better than I have in the past.
Hang 5s are solid and I am coasting them at a much faster speed than I have before.
Some kids were watching me ride and he asked how many tricks can I do. I started going through all of them. I think we both lost count around 15 or 20. Most of those are basic tricks..IE...endos, Bar endos, Squeakers, Infinity Rolls, Tailwhips
But I was able to get into BW Halfhiker, Hang 5's and Steamrollers and Whiplashes
Keep on RIding!!

I rode too. But after about 20 minutes the bike needed some work, and I didnt have any tools in my car so I headed back to the crib. Usual stuff, hang 5s, whiplashes, some scuffing stuff. I did try wheelies, I was able to make it the length of the school I was at. I also bunnyhopped up onto the sidewalk a few times. I also 180'd onto it. That was fun.
Since my driveway is gravel I have to drive to a place to ride. The local elementary schools have nice lighted parking lots. Both have street riding capabilities. BITD I always rode in front of my home, I grew up in a condo, so there was a good size parking area to ride. It is weird getting into a car after a session. Anyway, I have fun again riding.

I had a few minutes last night and I got out my new flatland bike. (I'd been working on my mountain bike and needed to ride a real bike for a bit).
I haven't done much on my new bike yet so I am still shaky.
I did a fire hydrant, sketchy but I pulled it. (Man, the back swings around fast on these new school flat bikes).
Then a 180 to rollback to infinity roll. That felt ok, pretty smooth.
Then a tailwhip, again the back came around really fast, I pulled it, but, I put a nice black mark on my new frame, and realized my seat may be too far forward. (my foot almost got stuck under it).
I haven't done a hang 5 in a while so I figured I would go for it. I usually put my left foot on my front peg and my right foot on my back peg, as it is easier to push the bike forward from this position (more leverage). I should have thought about how short these bikes are, but I didn't. I just pushed up like normal and when I hit the normal spot for a hang 5 on my old bike I realized that I had made a grevious error.
I was already a couple inches from landing on the ground...
boom.
My wrists took the brunt of it. I haven't gone over the bars in a while so it brought back some good memories. But, it still stung.
I got back on and did about 6 hang fives down my driveway, this time I barely pulled up and started from my pedal. I was sketchy but it was fun non the less.
I then did a few steamrollers, and a double footed steamroller. And then I jumped in the pool to cool off.
I should have put on my hammers and my gloves. I have a nice black bruise right above my knee from the bars when I wrecked.
No pain, no gain.

This is what I like- reading about us riding our bikes and not just staring at the collection!!!
I rode last night for about an hour, but I'll hopefully get in at at least and hour again tonight.
I've got the coasting part of wheel chairs down and am now working on riding into them from a reverse-bar steam roller. I also nailed a few more whiplash to hang fives, but now I want to learn the flail boomerang to hang five that I saw in a video Sandy linked to me a couple days ago.---SICK!!!

rode today....pulled some nice clean...and long...steamrollers....a few whiplashes...got into a front yard nicely, then lost it...tried a couple fire hydrant to funky chickens....no go....i was gonna start on forward side glides, but i noticed my seatpost was a bit loose, so i didnt fool with them.
i was also going to try to get my elbow glides back too, but ill leave those for next time.
i REALLY need to start learning rear wheel scuff tricks...everything i know is on my front wheel.

rode tonight for two hours. I finally got a steam roller directly into a wheel chair. I also managed to to start getting tight circle hang-fives and then make it roll backwards and then kick the front tire and go into the hang five again. I'm sketchy, but i think I have the mechanics of it. Thanks has to go to Kip Williamson who is now a regular riding partner and overall flatland "coach" for me these days.
More progress to come over the weekend I hope.

Well, I went down to the park today. There were people... get this... playing basketball on the freakin' basketball courts. I swear, the nerve of some people.
Anyway, I went to a parking lot tucked away elsewhere in the park. Next to the tennis courts, actually, but in order to keep my permission to ride on the b-ball court, I have to resist the tennis court urge. The lot's smooth, unlike other lots in the park, but it has a slight incline. Therefore, I mostly worked on rolling stuff. It almost became a session of exclusively hang 5's and steamrollers... both of which really need the work... but I absolutely had to change up after a bit. So I did some squeakers/backwards hang 5's (one always becomes the other because I forget to use my brakes on squeakers) and a few backwards and dork wheelies (not so much the latter) and I hit a really sweet feeling fire hydrant to backwards wheelie to infinity roll to decade in an inspired moment. Megaspins are just weird on an incline.
Yesterday, however, I was on the b-ball court, and I remembered that, at one point, I'd been working pretty steadily on undertakers a while back, and ended up coming fairly close a few times, and actually felt good enough to try to ride into them from swivels and fire hydrants. Some people twist their legs getting into them, but with my knee the way it is (for all intents and purposes, ligamentless), I have to learn to get into them without twisting anything.
I've got a backlog of tricks I've started work on, so I can change up what I work on/mess with and I still get to jump off the bike mid-trick and curse at myself under my breath for almost the whole hour.

Nobody rode yesterday? Well, it's only fair, neither did I. Not that I didn't try... I went to the park, there were people playing basketball again. I went to the other lot, there were people walking dogs around in circles and more showing up every minute. I pulled into the Seventh-Day Adventist's parking lot, and started to ride, and the straddle cable snapped on my back brake. No tools or anything with me, so I just went home and fixed it. By then it was too late to go back.
This evening, I went up to the park, and the basketball court was blissfully empty. So I rode. Barely hit anything... it was just a bad session. But at least I got some exercise. Only real notable thing was that I ended the whole thing with ten (single) decades in quick succession, just so I could try to finish on a high note. Then I kept screwing up doing them out of fire hydrants... which I'm usually consistent with... and I just had to stop. It was time to go anyway.
But, again, at least I got some exercise. Sometimes I wish I had someone to ride with.

I rode again. Fun stuff. The elementary school near my crib has some high curbs, short stairs, hills I could jump on. I had fun with all that. However, this getting old stuff blows, my right shoulder is killiing. Even funner is having to explain it to people at work, they look at me funny. But I dont care. I had fun.
