I have been following and voting in the Street beat comp , Amazing bikes !!!
But where did all these frames come from ?
i bought 2 off ginny , they are on their way , i bought 1 of ebay 3 months ago and use it as a rider .
why have these frames only surfaced now ?
how many is there ?
Did skyway make too many BITD and just store them till now ?

Ozzy, you hit the nail on the head. Skyway apparently found a stack new, raw frames in the warehouse.

hey coastvl .... how did skyway just find them ?
MR SKYWAY SAYS TO MRS SKYWAY ... "OMG there is 15,000 streetbeat frames and forks behind this cupboard , i thought we had sold them all in 1985 .... oh well , lets flog em off now "
i will have a total of 3 frame and forks sets , how many did they find ?

OZZYBMX

thats what i was thinkin nintendoninja !!!!
why after 21 years did someone just "FIND" f&f sets ?
obviously they would have sold for more BITD , that floggin them off in 2006 for $30 a set !

I think the frames were in boxes with "Parachute Pants" written on them....so no one looked at those boxes for a few years...until one of the guys opened a box and found a Streeet Beat!!!!
OZZYBMX
May 1 2006, 05:22 AM
yeah mate sounds like it , but 15,000 boxes with "parachute pants" takes up a wee bit of space too .
but having them all this time , then "discovering them" .... next thing selling them off for chook feed prices !
something weird about the whole thang

Who said there was 15,000 boxes?
OZZYBMX
May 1 2006, 05:40 AM
why do you know how many there were ??
i am using 15,000 as a benchmark figure until the facts come out ?
there are 9000 members on here , the bikes were offered at $30 each . ginny is still selling them at $30 each if you buy 2 . i personally now have 3 (australia) there was 2 of the top 4 in the SB shootout from OZ , there must be loads of them shipped over here ! there is probably 10,000 bmx items on ebay (worldwide), there is 4 different sellers offering these frames ? how many have been sold on there ?
im only curious to know how many frames did skyway find , why release them now and why sell them so cheap ?
just curiosity as i said as i have now 3 of them !

Ed says in one of the contest threads that there were 70, close to what I was told when they surfaced. I purchased 10, all sold but 2. Most of the frames I painted had some minor flaws, major rust, or scailling and many people have reported BB shells out of round, so I would guess some of them could have been put to the side for quality concerns.

That's my guess also... my frame was pretty bizarre. The BB cups were nearly impossible to get in even using a press. My seat post tube was another problem. I tried several different posts and they all went in REALLY tight. The one I ended up using was installed with a hammer!!
I think these frames were factory blemishes.

HMMMMmmm .... that sounds more like it !
STREETROD + BEDLAM HAVE NAILED IT !
i dont know about the 70 bit , but definately they could be seconds ! stands to reason why they were so cheap .
streetrod - you had 10 , everyone who entered the SB comp bought at least 1 ... some guys bought 3 . + probably as many bought them and didn't enter , i have 3 , i know another ozzy that has 3 , ginny is still peddling em on her website and there is an ebay seller selling the raw 1985 frames too .
there must be more than 70 !
you's have me thinking/worrying .... if you hear a banging noise ... im hammering BB Cups in
in australia

About 10 years or so I went into Trend and Tina said that they "found" a bunch of TA's and asked me if I thought anyone would be interested. I said hell yeah and bought myself one. These were painted, stickered and appeared flaw-free.
I guess they have what you would call a "black hole" of a warehouse that eats things and digests them out a decade or two later.
Good for us, right?

Here is the official word with the Street Beat Frames.....
A few months ago, Skyway was cleaning up a warehouse to make some space, and found 300 Street Beat framesets, raw, in perfect condition.
I bought about 80 of them, and Ginny at Rini's bought the remaining 220 of them.
We both sold them here on Vintage to members for $30 each. I sold out quickly, and Rini's still has a bunch of them available.
...and now.... here's a bit of info for ya.... The original name for the Street Beat was "The Grasshopper"!.....

I bought four of them, and have only built up one so far (perhaps you've seen seen it ), and I didn't have any issues at all.

no matt .... we must have missed it !

you should look at the street beat comp for tips on building the next one !
colouredtuffs - the official story is what we were looking for ! still a mystery how to hide 300 frames BUT sounds good . thanks for the info guys

.....I'll be taking a trip over to the Skyway factory in August. Maybe they will let me grab a flashlight and wander around the dark deserted depths of the warehouses....
.....maybe I'll be able to dig up a pallet of old campy Graphites next! LOL! (But heck... ya never know!)

yeah colouredtuffs ... its not really a factory ... its a labyrinth , with lots of chambers that the umpa-lumpas carried frames , Graphite tuffs and coloured tuffs into for storage !
And as the archeologists explore deeper , we can expect more great discoveries

Oompa, Loompa, doom-pa-dee-do
I have a perfect puzzle for you
Oompa, Loompa, doom-pa-dee-dee
If you are wise, you'll listen to me
What do you get when you find 300 old frames?
A bunch of old men playing stupid games.
Building a bike not to ride, you'll get terribly fat!
What do you think will come of that?
I don't like the look of it...
Oompa, Loompa, doom-pa-dee-da
If your build is creative, you will go far
and you will live in happiness too
Like the Oompa Loompa doom-pa-dee-do

A couple of years ago, Skyway sold over 600 Streetbeat frame sets to Henry Fu with a company called American Bicycle.
These framesets were painted an in many cases masked for two tone but never completed. I was buying the framesets for $20 each and flipping them on ebay. I went through 20 framesets myself and there were two other sellers on ebay who found the same stash at that time.
