Anybody know what year this is. I bought it recently from an old guy who had it sitting in front of his house. Looking for basic info on it. Is it a Mach one. Was the mach a low end bike or better. Wheels look not to be original. head tube dacal looks not to be original. What ever you can offer would be much appreciated, Lenny

Lenny, that's an 86... nice find. Mach one is mid-leval GT..not the best pro-series...not the lower end...and I hate to call any GT lower end...as the Interceptor. Chris

Defineatly not original wheels, seat post, clamp, tires, Gyro. Stem looks correct. Somebody wanted a freestyle real bad. Still, nice find. I had a Mach One BITD. I would love to find another.

yep, 1986... check out the Ajk link to the left. It has the 1986 GT catalog on his site. Great reference material. I've been using it to restore a 1986 pro series. Nice find...

Not to argue (since you guys know a lot more than I do), but from the stickers, it looks like an '87 to me.

Using the catalogs from AJK's site, the distance between GT and Mach on the '86's was much closer than on the '87's. Lenny's looks like they are spaced more than the '86 sticker.

'Course, the '87's show yellow on blue instead of the white on blue from above, so I'm probably totally wrong.

nintendoninja
the serial number will tell you what year it really is!!!!
yearofthecat
Nintendoninja is the one who is 100% right. The serial number will tell the year. I based my 2 second decision on the decals and the white seat tube sticker. The age of the bike however could have sun bleached the yellow(if it was yellow) to white. If it was yellow without a serial number I'd go 87...if it is white I'd go 86.
Notice the AJK catalog down-loads and you'll see that GT was a recycler. The 86 catalog includes components on the bikes with 85 rounds not the 86 white rounds...so that adds a little to the confusion. I recently almost sold an 88 seat-post cause the decal and color does nothing to help my 84-86 builds...I scratched it by mistake to find under the dark blue powder was light blue 86 powder and the stamp for Cr-mollyGT.
Enough blabbing from me...post a serial number.

USA made frames, thru '85=all numeric and on the outside of the rear dropout, the first numbers are the month and year. Later import frames, serial under the BB (on Performers at least, probably those too) and had letters in the sequence. I don't know if you can tell the year from that. Most import frames I've seen are very nicely made.
When all frames were made in the USA, the Mach One was built around a standard Pro frame, same as the Pro Series, they were all chromo.

Woot! First post.

I have a GT frame and forks. The serial starts with 385 so I assume it was made in March 1985. There is also a 4 below the serial, what's that designate?

Thanks!
