I for one have to say great job to everyone- the choices were tough to say the least. You all did a tremendous job and its actually really cool to see so many different variations of one ride.

GREAT JOB to all!!!

You know, I've heard this said before in relation to other contests, but I've never believed it. Well, I do now...

ALL OF THEM ARE WINNERS!!!

Tom is a great guy!

Would you guys like me to reveal the owners of each bike as they are eliminated, or wait until the whole thing is done and over with?

I wanted to comment too:

I know ZERO about Skyway Street Beat's, but I've got to say that seeing all these bikes has been a real treat. The builds are wild and the four-panel picture display of each REALLY adds to the overall presentation.

Again, I rarely enter the Freestyle Forum, so I wanted to ask...Has this type of competition gone on before? It's gotta be the coolest thing I've seen on this website in a LONG time. Makes me wish it was happening in the Vintage race forum.

Mind-blowing job on ALL the entries guys. My votes have been submitted.

Tom

Noooooooooooo!

Only reveal the names after it's done because it's been noted who entered and people can try to figure it out, especially in the last 2 rounds.

I would want everyone to base their vote on scoot alone.
BumpyTrumpet
How bout' we choose a subject bike and
maybe run a contest every three months; or every month for that matter.

I got to thinking last night,i can't imagine how great it would have been to own ANY of them bitd.If only i had the mechanical skiil i have now along with a decent paycheck.I'd like to see any average SB from bitd compare to our contestants here.

It's never happened before. Skyway "found" a BUNCH of old raw 1985 NOS frames in their warehouse. They were selling them for only $30.00 a pop. We (freestylers) were buying them up like candy. Everyone started talking smack about how theirs was going to be built, etc... So I figured we coud do a $10.00 a piece competition, winner take all.

I think we could do similiar comps (even free ones) in the future where we all just use our existing bikes and go for it. We could have a Haro Master comp, Trick Star comp, etc... every few months. It'd be completely harmless if it was free and we wouldn't have to set restrictions due to the fact they are already completed bikes.
rcrscott29
Well I'd be down for any other Streetbeat contest... seeing how thats all i have. LOL
Actually we could probably have another Streetbeat contest because most of us bought more then one frame....just change the rules some this time so the builds come out different. Or have classes...for ex. all out class, rider class, most like the 80's class, tribute bike class....etc.
Anyway....
How about at the end of the contest you reveal the builders of each bike and redisplay it with the builder getting a chance to give a parts list and so forth?
Just a thought.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this display of 'Beats. I'm thinking about picking one up from Ginny to build for myself!

I think we could easily have a "bike of the month" and submit photos for a simple contest. No entry fees, no prizes, just a nice display of OS freestyle bikes and a little pride bump for those involved. I like that idea! I think it would also encourage folks to rebuild bikes -- especially if they knew next month was Master month or whatever.

I think Dan Haros and i could officially supply a haro master shootout. Lol...this contest is dope for sure.
twintoptuber
We already did bike of the month a few times and it's difficult to build a bike within a month or two. All I know is I tried several times to participate in a bike of the month feature, talked about it, and then got a phone call from bedlam/dan'sharo/streetrod/pep etc... asking how it's coming along with my reply "I hate building these bikes, I now hate myself, my girlfriend hates that I'm on the phone 23 hours a day tracking parts...." LOL! Guess that's the reason why I've been in the hobby years now and only showed 2 absolute complete bikes. I suck.

Part of me also hopes we don't do this again for a long time because so many of use will reference it in future posts. It will be our special thing and mostly for the guys who stepped up and showed their scoots. All our "memberships" shall now be remembered as pre-shootout.

A month or two?

I have a couple bikes going on a YEAR or TWO!!

Some stuff is real - REAL difficult to find....

I'd be down for that...I have one more raw frame/fork left and I just scraped the money together to finish my first raw-frame build....so yea! I got parts to use!

Hi guys,

Bart at Skyway Wheels here:

Yesterday, at the Skyway factory, I sat down with the engineer who designed the Street Beat.

I showed him this thread and the others in the StreetBeat Shootout.

When he first designed the Street Beat, the project was called "The Grasshopper" - his name for the frame as he designed it.

"If you look at it it kinda looks like a grasshopper," he said with a friendly smile. Rein is still a key player at Skyway and does most of our newest designs.

The bike was later named the Street Beat.

Another Engineer, (who BTW discovered Vanderspek in the Golden Gate Park!) wandered into the office.

You should have seen those guys inspecting and noticing every detail of each bike.

You guys are the only ones who make my job fun!

Wheelchair wheels are useful and good business but do not offer the same fun as BMX wheels!

Thanks for this great competition!

Regards,

Bart at Skyway

After you told us about the original name months ago I thought about doing a custom decal with "Grasshopper" but never got around to it.

I wish we had been there to see the designers face.
