If any phenomenal female freestyle rider deserves honorable mention in her very own VBMX thread, it's definitely Krys Dauchy. She was such an awe inspiring rider during the 80's freestyle scene. Krys was just as much an integral part of the GT freestyle team as any of the dudes were and beyond.
Full Name : Kristin L. Dauchy
Birthdate : October 9, 1970
Hometown : Peninsula, Ohio
Favorite Trick : Backwards grip ride

She's quite the Hotty!
She was around just before I got into riding. Was she a really good rider?

Krys was a good rider. She did some weird acrobatic balance stuff that they always put in the mags but she was much better than that.
Off topic- Notfreestylin.com will soon be coming back and feature a new design and the older stuff will trickle back in here and there. I'll be one of the 3 main people behind it.

Her riding ability 20 yrs. ago could make many us dude riders feel "punk'd" with her backwards grip ride variation.
Just check the links under the top post for proof !!!

Her interviews, (along with the late 80's era "pro BMX'ers = rock stars presentation in the magazines) always made me think that out there somewhere there were lots of girls riding bikes and around the riding world. I remember being confused going to my first contest and realizing that not counting rider's sisters and the occasional girlfriend, there were NO girls there, at all.

if i recall she was a gymnast and got injured and she then got into freestyle and thats how she was able to be so bendable and make such acrobatic moves.

a while ago i was looking for some info on her and came across her personal blog and myspace page if anyone wants to know the real krys. im sure she wants to be remembered for her riding abilities (which she is) but it doesnt hurt that she was easy to look at. i mean...back then how many guys just wished she was their girlfriend.
heres the links:
http://myspace.com/chinagrrrlhttp://darkchildabyss.blogspot.com/she has posts dating all the way back to the early 90s. some very personal soul searching stuff.

I was wondering if something would pop up.
Joe and Krys have a bad, bad history. Joe's side of the story isn't any better. They were both totally addicted to drugs and messed up so don't take any of that too seriously.
Joe has been straight for a couple of years and has a great wife and two kids. Krys has her own daughter. Let's just let them be and look toward the future.
I imagine the mods will nuke this or the previous post. It isn't rumor or demeaning. It's true. We are all adults here and even if there are some minors reading this, let them learn about two lives nearly ruined permanently by drugs. We all know people who have been in that situation and it shouldn't be swept under the rug in my opinion.
Sorry if that offends anyone or bursts any bubbles. Beside being great riders, the heroes from the 80's are people first for better or worse.

I agree with Brett 100% - I have had several friends that let drugs get in the way of many things.. in my case, my friends were college students/friends that didnt graduate or never advanced after graduation because of drugs. From my riding era, I have friends that went downhill fast (no names, but you know them) and let that life consume them for what seems permanent-though many did pull through those issues and went on happily. In the end, regardless, its still life - for better or for worse we live, we learn, and that is really what it is all about. For me personally, I can honestly say that I want to see Joe G again and I want to see Krys again... they were former friends and nothing would change the importance of that. I dont much care about challenges in their past or what they were as a couple. Rambling...

Back to the positive side of Krys Dauchy,
She won a contest in BMX Plus! looking for women freestylers. The grand prize was a GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team model and a sponsorship from GT. I think this was around 1987. There was a video from this time called "Freestylin' Fanatics" that featured a flatland run of hers, consisting of backwards grip ride, backwards peg wheelies and such.
That "Freestylin' Fanatics" video also has a clip of Vander from the same contest. But has some real cheesey commentary.

Hello People. Thanks for your kind words. Many of you HAVE used mySpace to reach me in the past week or so. I appreciate all your communication.
Yes, it's me. No, I don't ride much any longer. Yes, I have MANY fond memories of when I did. Yes, I'm a student of kabbalism.
What lead me to "disappear" from BMX was when when I started getting better placing in contests because of who I was instead of my riding. Attention is nice, and all...but it's really about the riding. I rode, because it set my soul free...and after a while, in a professional environment, that didn't happen anymore.
Now, I'm a mom. I am gainfully employed (where and what really don't matter, occupations should be worn like a loose fitting cloak). I study martial arts, belly dance and kabbalah. I have degrees in photography and I'm working on my graduate degree in psychology. I've wandered off the ends of the Earth twice, and lived to tell the tale.
Best wishes and fortune to all of you. Thanks for remembering me fondly.
Sincerely
China Krys Darrington (ne: Dauchy)

Hey Brett - I "stumbled" around on Myspace the other day and noticed a dude once known as "Mind blowing Jones" is a member on there. Any chance on getting that 'ol guy to stop by this site sometime? This place will never be complete until the day he registers.

He has poked around but I don't know if he'd actually sign on. He's kinda quiet, if you hadn't noticed.
Actually, all the attention he'd get would drive him nuts. He doesn't like it in general and it would be outta hand. I'd be very surprised if he ever got involved with VBMX.

That last time I talked to Kevin in person was in 1988 which was obviously a LONG time ago! However, based on the multitudes of videos I've seen, he does seem pretty quiet like you said. That's cool... his riding speaks for 10,000 Joneses!

O.k., well since the guy never got an answer to his question on what is Kabballah; I'll answer it. I'm not a Kabballist myself, but have studied its philosophies.
Kabbalism is a "sect" of Judaism that studies the Kabballah or Talmud. It differs from more orthodox Judaism in that it has more of an "interpretive" or "spiritual" understanding of the Law. In Kabballah man travels through different "spiritual paths" or "Sephiroth" in order to obtain a "oneness" with God (En-Sof). That's really about it in a nutshell. Kabballah was not taught to non-Jews for centuries, but has now become available to non-Jews. It is very popular in the Hollywood circles, Madonna, Ashton Kuichter (sp?), etc. Its sorta one of the "in" religions like Scientology in Hollywood.
If a person is interested in Kabballah do a search on
www.amazon.com for a book called "Kabbalah An Introduction and Illumination for the World Today" by Charles Ponce'.
