Maybe the Pro Compe and a few other things too.
I want a newschool flat bike and will be needing a new road bike this Spring. Gotta pay for them somehow.

What kind of road bike? I am in the market for one as well, but haven't been into it for a while...
I've been looking at the Orbea Onix and Kestrel Talons....

don't know yet... I'll go to my LBS and get fitted and tell them what I'm looking for. Basically I want something that will be used 90% on flat pavement for distance riding, but I also want to be able to bunny hop curbs and such.

I'm with you on the new flat bike idea. I got an FBM Equilibrium a few months ago and I'm very happy with it. I also bought a used Lemond road bike a couple of years ago that does me well when I get the itch for road riding (anyone here ever do the Bike Ride Across Georgia? If so, I'll see you this summer). Then of course I have my Kona mountain bike for days out on the trails. I think it's important to have all of my cycling needs met with a full array of bikes for all occasions!
Now, I'm finally working on my trick star build to have my 'old school' representation too.

I love my Giant TCR 2T, I have about 800 miles on it.

http://share.shutterfly.com/action/slidesh...d=1142608588492It has held up great and the conponents are really nice for a low end road bike. It is about 5 years old now I guess.
My father in law has the giant OCR? It is a high end Giant, he had a cannondale and a trek before that, all of them creak and crack when he rides them... High end road bikes are not worth the money unless you are competing and someone else is paying to replace the frames every so often. They are just built for speed and not durability. After a short time riding the metals start to break down causing issues.
I also have a Schwinn Mountain bike.
But, I ride my new school flat bike the most lately.

I'll be spending way under a grand for a road bike. I think I need something with a more relaxed stance. I can't put a lot of stress on my wrists. I really aggravated my carpal tunnel on my MTB a couple years ago. Thick cushy gloves help.

paul, you can go with a mtn bike with street/slick tyres (most of an upright feel) curb jumping abilities
a cyclo-cross bike with street tyres (road bike with a more upright ride)
or a full on road bike (no bunnyhopping curbs)
i'll see you tonight

cyclocross might be the way to go.
Thanks!

I got my TCR brand new for $495 with clip on pedals and shoes. (always looking for a deal).
I tried the road riding on a mountain bike thing (I have about 400 miles on my mountain bike).
I would recommend against it. Especially if you already have wrist and hand issues. With a mountain bike you have 1 hand position.
Road bike you can switch hand postitions to change the pressure and help keep your blood going through your hands.
The more hand positions you have the better off you are, especially on a long ride. Plus, the weight makes a HUGE difference. I would never take my mountain bike out for a 75 mile day again. The road bike is sooo much easier.
But, as my grandma always said, "Park where you want to"

Hey Jeff - The Orbea is a real stiff feel to it, but the Kestrel will be a smooth ride for you. I've had a talon & they rode nice. I have a Cannondale & a Evoke kestrel. It's worth every dime. had to sell all of my BMX collection to pay for it, but worth it.
Paulie, look at the Felt roadies. nice FSA components & 105 stuff. Great price point too.

Pep - Gee thanks!! I appreciate the kind words! The Evoke is a beautiful bike but I want to start out a bit on the lower end side...but not too low. Basically what I am looking for is something that I will feel comfortable on for frequent rides in the 20-30 mile range. Longer rides a few times a year.
I've been mountain biking for 15 years and haven't ridden a road bike in a long, long time. My current mountain bike (Mountain Cycle Moho) has 3500 miles on it and I am sick of riding a mtn bike. I'd say around 60% of those miles were done on the pavement. I also do not recommend someone to buy a mtn style bike to do a lot of road riding.

Nobody can tell you exactly how a bike will feel to you.
Go out and ride the crap out of many bikes and pick the one that is good for you. I tried probably 20 different odels form 5-6 makers before buying my Lemond Zurich in 2004. Do I love it? Yes. Would you? No idea.
The only recomendation I have is to get at least 105 components.

It's cool to see that we have some roadies in here.....
I'm with pj though....I rode everything I could before making a decision. crossin over from the mountain bike racing (WORS) In Wisconsin for 5 years & sucking rather bad, I have found great enjoyment in a good century ride. Anything to get away from the kids for a few hours
