it seems theat the 401 flights are the standard, must have crank. why?

BTW RL 20 II Guy can you give me a price on some flight 2 cank arms only? 175 mm. thes will fit on a Monster crank spindle right?
RL-20II Guy
They are about $40 each. The whole crank set is $112 shipped. Redline is having a sale right now.

No, the Monster crank is another size spindle.

Wow that's freakin cheap for those things isn't it?

Shop near me has them for like $175
604 Rider
these cranks are grea, i grabbed a set from Stephen a while back for my buddy, they are super light.

stephen check PM thanks!

BTW does anyone want to buy a set of Redline Monster Cranks? the bering cups have been ground down to fit Haro frames better
Smokin Endo
Stephen is that for single pinch ?
meatpie
You won't get single pinch 4 that price..
RL-20II Guy
They are the double pintch style. They appear just like the OS 401's - I use them on some of my builds, when 401's get too expensive.....

Meatpie , I got a set of single pinch 180mm full wrap , sealed BB (not a Techmatic , possibly earlier ones need to compare it to a Hadley sealed BB I have still ) plus a chainring & all the nuts & bolts shims & spares including an extra spindle for ~US$125.......Don't worry my jaw kinda dropped too when I saw that I won the auction at that price as well
I've yet to get them into my grubby hands , but at that price I might look at giving them a black nickel chrome finish or some other exotic historically incorrect finish to them , I got enough sets of chrome single pinch 6 spine ones already on my other bikes......+ a set of pinchless second hand 175mm I bought complete bitd in 1981 for AUD$100. ( I _really_ had to work & save hard to buy those ones , back then)

BTW: You can never own too many 401 flite cranks , Tuf Necks , Bottema forks , Santa Ana GT Pro bars & matching laid back seat posts , as long as they are all fitted to ridable bikes

They're new school, but still look old school, and they're STILL pretty darn good cranks after all these years, and the price is right in line with most chromo 3 piecers (actually cheaper than many). I ALMOST got another set myself for my new school ride, but tried something different and went w/ Industry instead.

My Flight cranks story

One day back when I was in middle school, a kid I knew (who had rich parents) was asking me about bikes. I was into racing at the time and I loved Elf bikes, I told him what my favorite bike would be and listed all the custom parts, and of course redline flight cranks, techmatic bearings, and shimano DX pedals were in my list.

A couple of months later the kid came up to me in school and told me he had brought his bike to school. We went outside, and there sat my dream bike, brand new. I was amazed, the kid had used my list and bought every part.

Months passed and I would ask him about the bike, if he liked it, ect.

The kid said it was "Ok".

I was thinking, Man, that bike is lightest, coolest, fastest bike ever and this kid is not even appreciating it.

Well, I wanted to ride it, so I asked him to join us over at the jumps. He showed up and the bike looked like it did the first time I saw it, I don't think he had even ridden it since then.

The kid watched us jump a few times, and then he went for it.

It was ugly. He landed full on the front wheel and flipped over the bars, eating dirt.

He got up and his lip was busted, as well as his glasses and he was not happy. We took him over to a bk and cleaned him up and he left to go back home.

Months passed.

One day I asked him about the bike, he told me he wasn't into it anymore, and by this time I was getting into freestyle, so I asked him about the cranks, techmatics, and shimano DX's. He said he would sell them if I wanted them, so I offered him $50 for all three parts.

He said "sure" so I told him I would be by on Saturday to pick them up.

I rode up to his house Saturday morning with my $50 and knocked on the door. He came out and sheepishly told me he was playing frisbee with his brother and got the frisbee caught in the big pine tree in his front yard.

I looked up and sure enough, there was a 401 crank arm with a red shimano DX hanging in the tree. I asked where the other arm was and he pointed a little higher in the tree...

I said I'd give him $20.00 for 'em now that I was going to have to climb 20 feet up in a pine tree to get them, and he said OK.

So thats what I did. And they were the best cranks, pedals, and bottom bracket I ever had, I used them on all my bikes over the years and they never broke or wore out.

That is why they are the best. If you look at any of the pictures I post on here from back in the day, I am always riding these pedals, cranks and bearings, no matter what bike.

i've got two of the new school flight cranks and really like them a lot more than the profile i had before. installing those cranks is just way easier, they last and they also look good.
the one and only thing i don't like is that there doesn't seem to be any ti spindles available. i'd sooo love to get (at least) one.

if you know of a source that has one, please let me know. thanks.
COASTY
I bought mine from an Aussie factory JMC guy, Damon Bevan. I later got some campy graphites of him too.
They are without a doubt the pinacle of BMX cranks in my books. I'm not knocking 3 piece alloys or 1 piece. I have several bikes with 1 piece cranks. They are easy to put together, easy to maintain and from a racing point of view, easy to change gearing. They are strong and don't flex much but they are not indestructable. I found that out the expensive way. My spindle was twisted for 20 years before I got another from Rini's. It's what eventually led me to this site and my hobby being reborn!
Due for a rechrome in 2006.
Apollo
FreeEnterprise, I thoroughly enjoyed your story. I love stories like that. Do you still have the cranks?
91Master
I think they just sold on ebay. Glen sold off his entire old school ride.
lou
How about those 400 Flights! $$$!!!
akcuda
those beauties are 401s--Nice!
604 Rider
i bought a Quad BITD for $50 with Flights. years later when i fell out of riding, sold em on a GT PFST for $250. boy do i regret it now
FreeEnterprise
Apollo, I have the cranks all packaged up on my desk right now, I am getting together a bunch of stuff to take to the post office today.

Kind of sad to see them go, but for $225 for the cranks, $165 for the bearings and $65 for the pedals. My initial investment of $20 bucks seems pretty good.

My only regret is that I didn't put Aerospeeds on that list...

Stephen, I'm wondering how long it's going to take ebay to catch on to your outrageous shipping cost scam you got going... lol. Watch out. I think they look for that kind of thing... people trying to dodge fees.
91Master
Man I so wish I wasn't broke right now. I'd be all over a set.
lou
.99!!!! I`m coming over right now so I can save on shipping. lol.
Pauly
Those new school flights are nice. I have a set on my Os Pro and $99 shipped is the best price you're going to find methinks.

radlad1
Hey Stephen you better double check the description!!!
"Buyer gets FREE shipping in the USA"
If thats the case I'll take a set.
lou
That will save me on gas. lol.
Jet Black
I got enough sets of redline flight cranks to more than keep me happpy , now. Are those "99 cent" flights 6 spline or more spline models ?
A set of fresh 175mm chrome double pinch flights for a rider is cheap smooth bling in my books.

I like the shipping price option , have the ebay nazi's sent you any letters yet ? I don't think they take a % slice off your shipping only the items actual sale price.....you need to reword the ad's somewhat confusing title tho.
"Redline Flight Cranks Chrome 175mm BMX FREE Ship! $99"
It can be read as "free shipping" in the title & ebay would lean towards helping the buyer get the cranks for 99 cents if push came to shove in a dispute......alway cover yor @$$ on evil bay they make up the rules as they go along....
