My Flight cranks story
One day back when I was in middle school, a kid I knew (who had rich parents) was asking me about bikes. I was into racing at the time and I loved Elf bikes, I told him what my favorite bike would be and listed all the custom parts, and of course redline flight cranks, techmatic bearings, and shimano DX pedals were in my list.
A couple of months later the kid came up to me in school and told me he had brought his bike to school. We went outside, and there sat my dream bike, brand new. I was amazed, the kid had used my list and bought every part.
Months passed and I would ask him about the bike, if he liked it, ect.
The kid said it was "Ok".
I was thinking, Man, that bike is lightest, coolest, fastest bike ever and this kid is not even appreciating it.
Well, I wanted to ride it, so I asked him to join us over at the jumps. He showed up and the bike looked like it did the first time I saw it, I don't think he had even ridden it since then.
The kid watched us jump a few times, and then he went for it.
It was ugly. He landed full on the front wheel and flipped over the bars, eating dirt.
He got up and his lip was busted, as well as his glasses and he was not happy. We took him over to a bk and cleaned him up and he left to go back home.
Months passed.
One day I asked him about the bike, he told me he wasn't into it anymore, and by this time I was getting into freestyle, so I asked him about the cranks, techmatics, and shimano DX's. He said he would sell them if I wanted them, so I offered him $50 for all three parts.
He said "sure" so I told him I would be by on Saturday to pick them up.
I rode up to his house Saturday morning with my $50 and knocked on the door. He came out and sheepishly told me he was playing frisbee with his brother and got the frisbee caught in the big pine tree in his front yard.
I looked up and sure enough, there was a 401 crank arm with a red shimano DX hanging in the tree. I asked where the other arm was and he pointed a little higher in the tree...
I said I'd give him $20.00 for 'em now that I was going to have to climb 20 feet up in a pine tree to get them, and he said OK.
So thats what I did. And they were the best cranks, pedals, and bottom bracket I ever had, I used them on all my bikes over the years and they never broke or wore out.
That is why they are the best. If you look at any of the pictures I post on here from back in the day, I am always riding these pedals, cranks and bearings, no matter what bike.
