I can not believe what just happened. I was in my basement riding around and decided to start working on miami hop hops. Everything was going good I was up to four hops before the bike would drop. Anyway I was going and I felt this weird feeling in the bike like something bent or broke. Naturally I thought it was the front wheel. But no the frame cracked in half not even at the weld. The toptube completely broke in half about one inch from the headset tube. By the way it was a 1994 GT freestyle frame.
I know it is ruined, but I also have a 1986 Haro master frame that cracked at the seat tube about one year ago. So I was wondering if it is safe to start riding the cracked master. I would lay off tricks that put stress on that spot (decades, miami hoppers, bar endos). I just need something to ride and can not afford a new or even used frame right now.

get the frame welded before you ride. find a local machine shop in your area they can help you. should not be very much for a couple of welds.

That happened to my friend's 87 pro freestyle tour, it looked like a low rider when the headtube almost broke off.

We had '90 - '92 GT Pro FS Tours snappin all the time at the very same spot, top tube - one inch away from the headset. Well, those that rode street/jumped on those broke them mostly but anyway.
The shop would repair weld them, and we got them cheap or free and they held up great for flatland.

Just sitting on the haro or riding it will create stress and make it worse. Get it welded and reamed out in the seat tube so you can get the post back in there.
Why did haro make their bikes with that plat around the seat tube that always cracked? Why did GT make bikes knowing they were going to break?
Oh yeah, mo' money...

i wonder if the current owner of gt (pacific) would honor the lifetime warrenty on your frame. you should ask your bike shop, you might be able to trade it in for a new gt performer.
post some pics of your frame,i would love to see where it cracked!

I doubt they would give me a new performer frame and to be honest I wouldn't even want one for free
I am thinking about having my master welded. Then when the new retro haro comes out in 07 I will get one of them if it is full chromo. Cause I really need a whole new bike all the parts I have on this GT are beat to death. I gotta say it is amazing the Top of the line GT frame cracked in half meanwhile the peregrine super pro rims had no problems with the stress of miami hop hops.

Dude, I broke tons of parts doing miami hop hops. That trick is brutal on parts.
Mostly I broke forks, doing them, but I cracked a frame, and broke a couple of axles too. As well as the center bolt on my brakes.
Other than the axles I never messed up my super pro's though.

sorry to hear about your mishap but have you ever noticed on the back of the GT catalog that the frames are guarenteed against breakage for life. then a little farther down they say that their bicycles are not intended for freestyle/or stunt riding of any kind and voids warranty.
I mean really-- why did they produce the bikes to begin with that sounds like double talk to me just so they would have to cover broken frames.

Wow I have never noticed that 2niceharos. That is hilarious the GT pro freestyle tour team model is not intended for freestyle
I don't think I will being doing miami hop hops anymore it is a awesome trick but not worth the damage it is capable of.
