I picked this up for $40.00 off a buddy. The paint is actually a wierd bumpy powdercoat like they use on those shelves you put in your garage or on bed frames. I can't wait till I get parts to start building it. It came with Dyno forks, a newer looking Diamondback seat clamp, Cook Bros bottom bracket, A Durace crank arm with a 45t Shimano ring, and the other arm I have no clue what it is. I think the pedals might be cheapies too.

Any ideas on what parts I should use? I already know for a fact that I want Hutch forks with the welded on pegs.

Here are the before and after pics.

The Paint Job is known as futuristic black ...you got a deal .Basically stole the frame !
twintoptuber
If that was original paint, notice it's on a US made frameset.

I don't think it was original. The guy who had it before the guy I got it from had that powder coat put on. 25% of it has already been removed anyways. The powercoat was thick enough that you couldn't even read the serial. It bubbled off extremely easy. The coating had a million pits in it.

What did you use to strip the paint? Looks like it worked really well...
Rich Soryu
The stripper I used is called Strip-X Stripper and I think the brand name is Klean Strip. I got it at walmart. I got one of those little plastic cups there where the brush is attached to the lid too. I poured the stripper into that cup that use that brush to brush the stuff on.

That is a super clean frame. What color are you going with?
agentheinz
That's a USA frame. If the finish came off that easily (though it DOES look like Futuristic Black) it probably wouldn't have been factory. Are you leaving the chrome or getting it painted/powdered? Make sure you can get the decals you need first---I would love to do a white one like I had but the decals were white with chrome lettering, and are very hard to find.

No but she thinks all my bikes are ugly.

I don't plan on painting it because I really like how good the chrome still looks. What color decals were supposed to come on chrome Trick Stars?

I saw a post yesterday again about the futuristic blakc bike and I have concluded that my bike was futuristic black. Problem is, most of it has already been removed from the back half of the frame. Would have been awesome if the paint was in good enough shape to use. :/ oh well, I love this frame. I am fearful of how much I might end up having to pay for Hutch stuff though... Can't wait till I can ride it.

I hope you have a big budget. At least you got a great deal.It will be worth it.

Good luck finding the correct forks...especially as cheap as that frame was.

So how about the parts? Want kind of parts did these bikes come with? I might be starting a new trick star project and have a very nice frame and fork set but have no idea what kind of parts to use....I got some spare stuff here but nothing Hutch....how did these cool bikes come originally? I am just trying to find out more about the trick stars. Thanks for any help. Cheers

In most cases they were sold as frame and fork sets. I say build it how you would have wanted to BITD. IMO they look best with Hutch bars, seat clamp and stem if you can swing it.

That's steal for $40!

40 bucks is a major steal but man, getting that stripper to take the paint of your bike is pure genius! Strong pimp hand.
twintoptuber
LOL Maurice!

Bishop Don Magic Juan would be proud!
