What ever happened to John Dizz Hicks of the CW freestyle team?
steef
If you watch Joe Kid, you'll find out. (No Spoilers here.)
Thlayli
I might be mistaken, but didn't he post here a couple times?
bmxcurator
Again, that dude is just plain GNARLY. I'm glad he got as much time as he did on JKOS.
steef
Me too. I wish he still had his hair.
steef
HJAR! I just turned A Pro. Do i have to pay money for every post from now until AA Pro?

Dizz and Ceppie at the freestyle reunion back in 2002.

Dizz owns a buisness now, Custom Wood flooring, and rides MX now also. He gave me the lowdown at the Vegas reunion...
agentheinz
Ceppie looks like he could be one of the auxiliary members of the Beastie Boys.
sandy.crawford
both look like drugs are on the menu

Thats not cool

I always was a fan of Dizz Hicks. There was no one like him in the magazines back then, very aggresive looking.
oj45
Does anyone have a pic of Dizz on a blue CW?
dynoJ
here ya go
Nighthawk
When the CW team came to my town, they hung out with me and my team for about two days, we went riding everywhere. I've had the privelige of riding with a lot of top name riders. I have to say that Dizz and Ceppie were not one of, but were the two coolest, most down to earth guys to ride with. Total positive attitude, and it was just all about having fun. Dizz, I SO miss ya bud.

DIZZ HICKS TURNING OUT TO BE A REAL STAND UP GUY. WHAT A CHANGE AND FOR THE GOOD TOO.
Todd Costantino
Dizz ROCKED, man!

He's seen the ups and downs, been to hell and back and turned it all around. I look up to him for that.

He was one of the masters of the kick ramp, agressive on flat and an all out metal showman.

You truly are an SMF Dizz!

-Todd
CW's & HEAVY METAL
He was always my fave. Go figure.
Todd Costantino
CW's, man! You are an SMF too!

^ That's good to hear!!!
Profiler
I remember seeing Dizz at an indoor comp on Long Island around '87.

Can't even remember what the trick was called, but standing on the rear pegs,
going backwards with the bars x'd-up, doing circles all the way around the arena
at about 20 mph. With the the front mag flowing real slow rotations, like the
spinners on street rides nowadays. It was one of the coolest things I ever saw.
Axlepeg
Welcome, Shane, and thanks for the update.

Profiler; yeah, that was how Dizz often started a routine to get the crowd pumped up. Wicked gnarly SLIDER around the arena floor giving the hardcore sign with his fist and his tongue sticking out.

It's good to hear Dizz is doing well. We need him to check in here.

Also, check the stem height in Axelpegs first pic...... it looks like it's about 3'' higher than the headset. I couldn't get my leg over a standard set-up let alone his set-up. wacko.gif

Let's face it: the CW team was original - in more ways than just image, too. Both Dizz and Ceppie were great fun to watch and part of what made the mid-80s scene so memorable.
Wheelie Nelson
Found him!
Chevron Envy
Wow, that picture is wrong on so many levels. I LOVE it.
BOB-O
cool to see him riding an oldie..........
oldschoolrider88

shane29
You're welcome for the update. I'm going to a BMX track close to Sacramento. I'm going to see if dizz will go with me cuz I know he'll shut everyone up there. smile.gif

There's a good interview in the Freestylin' book with him here:

Sean Burns is pretty much this generation's Dizz Hicks, only kickturns and creative flatland have been replaced with 20 stair 360s to flat. The leather jacket remains.
bladdermetal
SMF fo life DIZZ!!
