Keep_It_Warm
I don't have my old blaster...but I do have an original Sony Discman in like new condition including the box, manuals, etc...I want to say it's from about 1984.

Also, (call me a Pack Rat after reading this) I have every cellular phone I've ever owned. Even back to the big, huge clunky late 80's ones.

Flava Flav and the S1W's....eat your hearts out!
MJ
OHHHH!! The one thing I didnt get rid of!!!!!!!
I had a little portable one that we could take wherever we rode!!
Will post the pic later tonight when I get home..just took a pic....heading out to D-Land with the kiddos right now!

I still have one, it's covered in Kuwahara stickers and has a GT sticker and Town and Country stickers on it too. It's seen better says, but still works and it's in the garage.

I "gasp" threw mine out when it started sounding scratchy.

It was covered in stickers.

Held 8 D batteries and is in a lot of my old videos.

I miss that old boom box.

I still have my novi tune tote 2 somewhere.
SkyWay1985
YO pioneer SK 550! thats the one that i can't get fixed(i got one broken), i want one of those man, they rock!
Reilley1
I have my old 8 track....
oldfreestyler
I used to ride with a Panasonic boom box. It had a pull-out record player, and cassette player. Even had a place to store tapes in the back. I've seen them on ebay a few times, selling for around $150. I'd love to get one again someday. Lasonic's are the big $$ getters. I've seen one of those fetch over $500 before!

LoL , lasonics get teh dough, but they're not the best, a sharp gf-777 smashes the lasonic to a pulp, wish i could get both of them though!
BOB-O
and you know i can't live with out my RADIO. huh huh huh... LOL
SkyWay1985
LL to the fullest! LoL

Is it considered politically incorrect to call them "ghetto blasters" these days? I had a small Panasonic with dual cassettes I bought back in '86. I blew the speakers out of it in '88. Too much loud Heavy Metal. I replaced it with a Radio Shack brand. It wasn't as cool, but it didn't give up the ghost until '02.
Pete Gossett
Lol...I still have & frequently use(I use it for my computer speakers now)my old GE boombox. It was the 2nd one I owned - the first was quickly destroyed, but this thing has stood the test of time!!! The metal speaker grills really stood up to all the skateboard/bike bails that flew into it.

It made some surprisingly decent recordings of my old garage-band also!
ScottZJ
Oh I got one too. It still works like a champ. My only problem is a power cord. I ended up using an AC plug from my digi camera charger.
COASTY
My old box is now serving duty in my shed along with the bikes of the same era!
oldfreestyler
I don't think it would be politically incorrect to call them "ghetto blasters". That's what they were called then, and that's how we knew them. Ghetto Blaster's or Boom Boxes. I would be kind of leary buying one though. I mean, those speakers are so outdated, and most of those radio's are over 20yrs. old. That's alot of miles on those old school speakers. Heck, the one I had BITD started "crackling" less than a yr. after I got it, lol. Can u even replace speakers on those things today??
oldfreestyler
Now that's what they should come back out with. A "retro" style boom box! They could have cd players, along with cassette players, and still have that same old school size. With today's technology they could look and sound even better than the originals. And I bet they would sell too, especially with todays youth. I would definately buy one!
Jay Huber
The trend will begin with them re-releasing the ghetto blasters, and next thing you know they'll have car guys bondo-ing the facades on them and adding small tv's and monitors, and dvd's and shopping cart wheels.... NEXT ON PIMP MY WALKMAN
86waterpumper
actually, Lasonic rereleased their big ghetto blaster that they made in the 80's the t-931 or whichever model it was, back in around 2000. The new one in the box I saw on ebay the other day was up around 350 bucks!
SkyWay1985
yea lasonic rereleased it, and apparently didn't make enoguh of em, and they all got bought up real quick! and no need to be leary when buying old boxes, i just bought an aiwa off of the bay, and the things speakers are tank like, it damn near rivals my home stereo! you gotta be leary of the junk brands, sadly lasonic is one of those that tend to have speakers that go in a year or too, one of my friends had a reissue that worked great for a month, then the tapes went, then the radio stoped working, then finally the aux input died, and since lasonic is like bobo, they didn't want to honor there warranty
GT_Pro_Performer
How about "Urban Blaster"
MJ
Here's my dinky little guy! Coolness as it still has a GT and JIMMY'Z sticker.....speakers were painted with paint pens....just like we used on the grip tape on our skate decks. Dont mind the Gf's writing!! Oh and the pic was taken on the jogger with the YELLOW Z rims!
BOB-O
skyway, i went to flea market today but, i din't see any...sorry
BOB-O
oh,i usually go every 2 weeks and will keep eye out..

Good news gang for Lasonic fans. I spoke to a rep at the company and was told they're doing a third run of the classic TRC-931 at the end of this year Just thought I'd share ...

SkyWay1985

SkyWay1985

Metal Head
man, i wish i didn't see that, now i'm gonna have to buy it fo sho. is there a website that has info on it? i'm wondering if there is a line in or optical digital out.
Axlepeg
I've got my old boom box from '82 or '83. Not quite a blaster, cuz it's got just one 8 or 9 inch speaker. Though, it drew attention because aside from the AM/FM and tape deck, it also has a 3" or 4" Television. Sony sumthin' or other.
ScottZJ
There is one on ebay right now and going to end in a few hours.
Lasonic TRC-931 ebay auction
oldfreestyler
AWESOME! Thanks for the info demark. I know what I'll be getting myself for X-Mas this yr!!!
rad rick
Im rockin' the BID DADDY of em all.. its a SHARP 777.. stupid big, crazy heavy.. but soooooo 80's!! Needs a little tlc, missing the grill covers and needs a speaker replaced, but i got a line on replacement parts, so its gonna be sweet!! Now if i hadn't sold off all my cassettes in the late 80's when the cd market hit, i'd have some killer tunes to listen to.. doh!!!

Rick
race_inc
Hey Rick, I've got shoe boxes full of cassettes! What did ya listen too? Maybe I can hook ya up!
demark
LOL no problem guys, I have to dig up some cassettes as well Keep in mind this is what they told me so don't yell at me if they don't come through! Lasonic Customer Support said to check back with them at the end of the year and they'll have more info for me. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

While I did see RCA jacks on the back, I think it having a digital out would be overly optimistic. If it did, god would that be the holy grail for converting our old cassette tapes! Maybe we can generate a list of names with this request and send it to them to indicate there would be much interest in this feature. I'd gladly address this so you guys can PM me with your full names and where you live and I'll forward off to Lasonic once I get a decent list.

With all this said, I'd avoid the sh!t boxes showing up on ebay. The retail price for the second run I believe was around 70 bucks so even if it was $100 - 150 for the third, it's still better than the almost $400 the last new one went for on the bay, as well as the $100 the banged up ones are going for. Just a thought.
oldfreestyler
Yea, I've got a TON of old school RAP on cassette, some are even still wrapped! I found a bunch of them at a local record shop...Hey Rick! Long time no see! Drop me a PM sometime and I can tell u were to get a bunch of old school RAP, ROCK, or "whatever your pleasure", cassette tapes dirt cheap!...Chris.
oldfreestyler
Cool idea demark. Let us know if u decide to do that.
demark
OK I started the list so PM your name and address & I'll add you (the reason I ask for address is so Lasonic realizes it's a legitimate list of real people).

You guys think I should start another, official thread somewhere else since this one's not related to freestyle? Let me know what you think.
DOUG
I have a 1980s Sony with detachable speakers available. I can take a pic if desired.
prosight

I've been thinking that they need to make a huge boom-box like that where an iPod slips into the cassette deck.
