I am not to sure of the specifics about the ramp, I do remember you bending your bars though. Seems like your show was at an old gas station or something.

Jamie, that's correct and I remember who you are as well. We've probably bumped into each other on several occassions since I'm pretty sure we rode many of the same events in the Southeast.

What a coincidence. I was watching the BMX Plus video last night. And BOOM.. Jim Johnson.. Sum up your life in the last 15 years.???? Let's hear it..

LOL....last 15 years....let's see..

-schwinn kicks us off....
-I ride street for a year on a flat black dyno
-hit a few local comps..
-got in bmx plus doing a fakie tree ride with a MUSTACHE....LOL...
-got a job at walmart...
-got a job at UPS...20 yrs old now..decided to go to community college
-met a surfer....started surfing...still skated heavily...throughout. stopped riding
-went to university of central FL for education
-mountain biking craze..got into basically BMXing in mtn bike trails...doing 360's and blowing those mtn bike nerds away...LOL...
-graduated...got a job and married...
-I've been a 5th grade teacher for 8 years now..I've kept skating throughout...
-have a halfpipe in my back yard...(miniramp)
-still ride every now and again..
-walk the dog every night on my GT compe....
-last trick I did? hang five.....while on a family ride...and various whiplashes....and wheelies...
I can still do most of my tricks.... :-) havent jumped in a while and thinkin about going to a skatepark with my bike....to jump....but I'm dreading pulling a bunch of upper body muscles..!!! Skating is ALL lower body.

oh....and I have a harley davidson....and enjoy riding that too....

I'm on my second marriage....one daughter from the first marriage...7 and one son from my new marriage...18 months! :-)

can you make me a copy of that bmx plus video??? I lost mine MANY years ago...

Sounds like your doing good. I just the BMX Plus video on DVD here in Vintage, so copying that is impossible for me.
But, it's cool, your on this thread, i'm still waiting for some old pics>

very cool! I'm in orlando now for the past ten years and started back freestyling around jan. this year. It's good to be back at it. I also did the mountain bike thing for about ten years and still love to hit the trails when possible. I also do road bike rides and have taken part in both Bike Florida and The Bike Ride Across Georgia for several years (biking +camping+beer).

Flatland is where I'm at again now though, so I'm just going to do my best to stay at and motivated. I did ride with Kip Williamson this past weekend, and he got me pumped to keep at it and learn more.

It's nice to chat with some old familiar pals here!

I went to woodward in 1988 and 1989. 2nd and 3rd weeks both summers. Good times.

I remember Kip too, his pic is on the back of this poster, if I remember right. He competed in the NBL back in the day.

Wow Glen, I competed in that same Rome venue in 1988--are you sure that wasnt from 1988. I had a flawless run, but there was one bad word in my song, so I was DQed. I had lost my tape so I had to borrow a song. It was Run DMC song and I remember the verse, "those dumb mother f***ers cant mess with us". The crowd started saying, "uh oh" during my run. I could hear it. You may remember, I started my run doing back wheel hops as a joke.

Jim, we should definitely keep in touch and try to hook up for some riding. Also, I've got a park bike on the way as we speak to try and stretch my aerial legs at the Mesh Skatepark here near me. I think I better get me a full face helmet though.............

It appears that many of us here crossed paths at one time or another BITD. It's great to have a place like VBMX to re-unite!

I remember that, yeah it must have been 88. (my 87 pro compe should have tipped me off, I changed frames every year back then).

I forgot about the wheel hops, But now I remember, (except they were Spastic wheel hops, pretty funny).

I remember the song too.


Who was the dude that faceplanted off the side of the ramp...

That image is still painted in my mind.

I think it was Joel Lamothe(sp?) that took that awful fall in Rome.

Chris is right, that was Joel Lamothe. Prior to 1988, he was the best in Atlanta. Then everyone caught up to him. Do you have video from that comp?

Hmmm, I might have some really horrible shots I took back then. Of course that would require me to dig them out and that just isn't going to happen any time soon.

This thread is literally the only proof I have that I rode....all my pics vanished cept for like, 6 or 7.

Probably...but they're not very good. I literally have to dig through hundreds of pictures in order to find anything worthwhile.

I always say "I'll do this...I'll do that" and I never end up doing it; however, I will find more pictures and bring this thread back to life.

I'll get a few old ones from Kaz..he has some old shots of the Beltline show, I think.

Since the Vintage Freestyle side of VBMX has been somewhat slow moving lately, I thought I'd resurrect one of my favorite threads ever on VBMX, and in point of fact the whole reason I joined this site! Heres some BITD shots of yours truly....back when I had a full head of hair!!!!
X-up one footed endo in my garage in the dead of winter. And no, thats not a tumor or a jay leno chin sticking out of my hair, its my toungue! I used to stick it out when I rode, nearly every pic of me I'm doing it!!! Oh well, who doesnt make funny riding faces.....speaking of that heres my "aggro look"!

We used to drag that huge ramp across the street from time to time.

Probably a year or 2 later, me and another friend messing around on my bike. Yeah I'm riding in combat boots. We weren't really riding that day but wanted to use up some film. Glad we did because I don't have too many pix of us riding.

Just for the heck of it here's a few old freestylers (me, Joe and John) at another old freestylers (Chris) wedding 7 or 8 years after that (and about 9 years ago from now, man that makes me feel old, LOL.)
