By Free Enterprise- Thanks for the new wallpaper on my pc. Great shot.

you know we always considered mags would flex more than spoked wheels, but look at that photo. It looks like those z rims are flexing more. Strange.

Sweet, it stokes me to know you're using that shot on your desktop LOL!

I'm assuming you're talking about the fedora/miami hopper shot, because, I'm using a Tuff and Jon has a Z-Rim in front. In the bar endo shot, I'm using some sort of 48 (araya?) and Pat is using a Tuff. If you ARE talking about the bar endo shot, it must just be the camera angle because my 48's didn't flex...much.

quote:
By Ditch Weed- If I recall correctly, STRIKE never rode ACS z-rims, so those are most likely 48's...he was the first guy to get em in town, I believe. Ironically though, I believe Wirz rode Z-rims for a while, think I bought a pair from him
Actually I did ride Z-rims for a while...till I jumped out of this short lived ditch jump we had here in town. I tried a tabletop 180 out of it and only got 90 degrees around. I landed from 6 feet to flat ground and the Z-rim tacoed. I actually remember SEEING it happen at the time, the spokes in that wheel were never the same. Rather than trying to fix it, I just threw it away and used the front for snow jumping (see snow jumping pic)...then gave it to Jo(see miami hopper pic).

Pat (Wirz) ran Tuff Wheels, from the first time I met him until he switched to metal 48's in the late 80's. I would bet you those Woody Itson bars you have that he NEVER used Z-rims. As far as I know, Ted ALWAYS ran Z-rims, as long as I knew him.

By mikkopeters- We're going to have to get some sort of a session going soon!
I heard you're having some sort of riding session Thursday night? Too bad I HAVE to work that night...it's the ONLY night that I absolutely HAVE to work.

Well...Shows you what I know!!I guess my memory is starting to go...next thing you know , Ill be saying I remember when STRIKE did that backflip at Helltrack and beat Bart Connors at the race, and hooked up with that chick from Full House!!...hey, wait....
bmx-bandit
Yeah, I took that pic of the dualing Miamie Hoppers. That's one of my claims to fame.. That picture rules and it was taken witht the worst camera.. Another side note.. It was the day after I went to a Bon Jovi concert...

Was that the same jump John (the guy next to Strike in the Miami Hopper Photo) broke his leg on?

Jumping is cool.
This thread is cool.
STRIKE
Oh man, I guess I didn't remember Jon breaking his leg? This was the jump that was on East River Road, not the one on the corner, but further North. You could start in the gravel road of Soderberg's Carpet Showroom, ride across east river road and then down the ditch and jump straight up. Kind of like a mini "dover".
mikkopeters
Man, the Minnesota Faction rears its head in this thread!
Yes, me and a couple other VBMXers are having a session Thursday, I hope to go home walking! Bill (WDS) has hosted a couple and we have went to a schoolyard right by his place. NDPRTS4HARO is going to host this one.
I actually rode with one of my OS buddies for the first time in 17 years last Friday and it was cool. We had a pretty shady ramp (2x12 + the stoop of my house) but we pulled some kickturns. I have been meaning to build a short ramp for some time now, but regular life interupts.
We gotta get together for some sort of ride sometime, I really dug the kickturn photos.
I will eventually have a blowout MN VBMX BBQ session at my house, but I am booked solid on the weekends for a while.
humidity saC
Railroad, just hearing from you again is cool. Old School baby! Welcome to VBMX!

Just so the rest of you guys know, we have gotten two of our fellow riders from our local scene onto VBMX since this post was started. The more the merrier! Nice to see you guys!

saC It's been a long time my friend... Seeing all this Miami Hopper, Cowboy, Bar Endo action makes "my nipples explode with delight"

Strike - Dover!!! Yeah that brings back some good mems. I couldn't even find that place back if I tried...(sad) It's probably an Applebee's by now huh?
Railroad Ty

Yeah we had some great sessions on the short ramp. It would go in spurts... We would drag the ramp out in the middle of the street and ride that thing for a few days straight.. then put it away for a few weeks... It was nice having the acs freecoaster, just a couple twists of the screws and it was kick turn/pedal picker nirvana.
STRIKE
mikkopeters, looking forward to the bmxbbq sometime in the future!

saC, Scott should be posting soon as well!

You'll never believe this, but I watched that video yesterday...Chad Roberts.

Did you know that Tom Haugen pulled the first tailwhip 360 (ever) at Dover? I bet John Mulhouse could find that place...and remember, there was a public walking trail running right through it, maybe it ISN'T an Applebee's after all?
STRIKE
Ty, remember, for a while we had casters on the side of it because we figured it'd be easier to move...and of course that's what the other trick teams did.

Funny thing is, we 'stored' it in the grass, 10 feet from the road and CARRIED it to the road. Those casters sure came in handy.

OH MY GOD!!!!
Was this the "other" pic you were talking about earlier???

CAN ANYONE OUT THERE TOP THIS ONE???

I think I just wet my outfit...
STRIKE
Yes, this is the picture I was talking about earlier and unless someone's doing this same trick in the nude...I doubt anyone can trump my Ace.
DitchWeed
ah yes....STRIKE shows us he's/his nuts! BTW.....If the shorts didnt give away how old that pic is, notice that lack of gyro/rotor!

and look at that -gt freestyle bars- weren't you cappin' on the other fellas for running those?
so did any of you new guys ever go to gamehaven?
i lived there from 83-86 on the weekends.

If your'e talking about the Camp Kahler BMX track, yeah went there a few times...that was a decent little track...had a fun rhythm section!
STRIKE
As far as the GT bars go...if the Fedora and dumb sunglasses didn't give it away...I was trendy too. LOL

I was at Gamehaven a couple of times, but never raced. I lived near the North Track so I would go up there and mess around once in a while. I recall one year there was some Rondo national race at the North Track and there were some big names there. I can't remember the people I saw, but I think people like Stu, Harry and the Patterson's were there?

Scott power mows in my basement, with the aggression of 10 Fred Bloods.

OMG I just noticed something VERY interesting about this photo. Look closely and you'll see something that I apparently held very dear. A free drink in Rockford '06 to the first person to spot this item.

WOW!!! There it is under the stereo. The FEDORA!!!

You should ask Bob and Patty if they have seen it laying around!

"GREG!!!?? Yeah?? What? Stick Around..."

Heh, good job eagle eye. This means you're going to have to come to Rockford with Jerry, saC and I next year!

Ok, now this shot COULD trump my short shorts kickturn. Scott, Peterson's his way into the record books with the shortest shorts ever worn by a freestyler from Rochester, MN.
humidity saC
Strike, I bet if you go back to your parents house the coveted Fedora will still be on that shelf. LOL

I forgot that Scott was freestyling on Snake Bellys!

Small ramp endo on his lavender Trick Star. Scott liked lavender.

Here's a shot of Scott on one of our 8' quarter pipes, you can see the other one in the background. These were in Scott's backyard until they moved to mine a year or two later.

Scott on the 6' quarterpipe. For some reason I really like this picture. I don't know if it's the grain, the angle it's shot at or how hot Scott looks in his full face; either way it's my new desktop image at home.

Scott puts his Race Inc. through it's paces on 32nd street NE. There's something about those mags and snakebelly tires that stoke me.

here´s another funny(to me) one i found ... must have been around 88 when i was on the schwinn summertour in europe with robert peterson for a while ... aaahhhh.... brings back memories.... if anyone speaks to robert these days , just ask him about the "YSBD"-tour in germany back then (as we called it) .... it was fun and a fun story behind the YSBD...

OK, when I grew up we wore Jams, the LONG board shorts. I knew some places were having a hard time keeping up with the latest trends, but what was up with MN guys??? I've been up there in the summer and it's still cold then too. What's with the short shorts? It's hilarious. Somewhere when I get around to finding some of my old pics I'm sure you'll see an example of some shorties that a guy in my area used to wear. He was always sporting the Jack Tripper look.
Howard Radcliffe
Alex, awesome pics, I will dig some of my ramp photos out and post them.

Brit riders Mark Atkins, one of the first people in the UK to learn tailwhip airs, his dad Roger who was the funniest person I've me in a long time and the ginger dude is Brian Wills, who used to give a young Jamie Bestwick a run for his money at the comps BITD.
Guav

Ugly patterned hat with the brim flipped up, slight mullet, tight-rolled pants, LOUD shirt that my grandmother made me, pink Converse All-Stars with the checkers drawn on with a Sharpie (couldn't afford Vans). See how the ends of the seat stays have eaten away at the rubber on the sides of the soles from my blazing-hot Rear Wheel Hops?

Pay close attention to the three sets of Donuts on the grips, and the totally custom electrical-taped seat nose (to protect my fingertips when pulling totally aggro Track Stands and Nourie Stands).

I also wrapped electrical tape around my brake levers because I thought it looked tough.
GRIZZ
I have posted a link to these photos before, but never directly in a post. These are from 1985, Southern Oregon, with my team, the Concrete Commandos. You may recognize one of the riders...
