Full Version: Dyno's starting to gain ground?
VintageBMX.com > VintageBMX Talk > Freestyle BMX
Matt S.
Two recent Dyno auctions made some decent money recently, which is a switch from the past when they were going for next to nothing.

86 Compe II in pretty good shape went for $237.00 + at least $30-40 to ship it. And the winner's last name was Deluca!(kinda cool)

About 1 1/2- 2 years ago, there was a bone stock blue 86 Compe II that sold for around $60 in comparison.

Then we have a not-so-mint 87 D-Tour frame and, unless it's a bad pic, totally thrashed forks that went for $81 with shipping. I know last year there was a blue 87 D-Tour, all stock except for the seat post, went for $76.00 for the entire bike and then a bit more recent then that a completely stock 87 Pro Compe, in what looked to be great shape, only went for around $120!

Personally, I'm no collector, so the "value" means very little to me, but it's nice to see some Dyno's going for a little bit more then "next to nothing".

Lol. I noticed Deluca also and thought, no chance to bid against that!

I think because they were relatively inexpensive they got thrashed more and tossed.

I haven't seen a NOS f/f yet. (Besides yours.)
I'm still looking for a 85/86 Compe in Green.
Pauly
I was watching the auction for that compe II and 6 months ago would have been a player for it, but now I'm just focusing on a couple current projects. $237 is a steal for that bike.

Man...I always liked those blue 86 compe II's. My best friend had one. those were sweet bikes. Never liked the 87's though. Not sure why, just didn't.
GT_Pro_Performer
The block stem alone goes for $40-$50+
Wayne R.
I've always wanted one, ever since seeing those weird forks back in the 80s (the white pictured one's are thrashed, by the look of them).
Watching the Dorkin' videos, it seemed like all the Hoods and their friends had owned a Dyno at some point. A friend of mine's got a couple of bikes and his Dyno gets the most use.
Reckon I'd better grab a mid-schooler for cheap while I still can.

Comps where the bomb ,,,,,my first ride was a Dyno Detour, then a Pro Compe

Zefiro, there was recently an 85 NOS chrome with black decals on ebay but I don't think it sold, but that's the only other one I can remember seeing.

As far as them being thrashed more, I think you are right on there. I can remember kids in the neighborhood that could care less about freestyle starting getting D-Tours and whatnot because their well-to-do parents wouldn't dare buy them a K-Mart bike. They'd ride around with the chain guard and reflectors on them

Plus, I think because this old school collecting is still relatively new, people are still going after what they desire, not so much what was rare. Dyno always took a back seat to GT I think in terms of popularity, so in-turn, there are more people today after the Pro Freestyle Tours, the Masters and Sports, the RL 20 II's and the Trickstars, and not so much a Compe II or Pro Compe. But as more people start catching the bug, more Dyno fans will come out of the closet.

It's back:

$250 starting bid.

"a sweet nos dyno kit with correct year stickers"

Weird thing though is that the frame and fork is NOS but he replaced the stickers? And like almost all Dyno sticker kits like that sold on eBay, it's missing the seat tube sticker.

theRuler
what kind of dyno frame is this?

i'm buying a bunch of old bmx stuff from a mate and this is included:

Looks like a pro compe to me, about 88-90. What is the serial number? That would tell you the year.

Here's mine. 88 pro compe team model with GT forks.

It is not a nos build, it is a rider.

No centerpull mounts, Ruler. I haven't seen those dropouts, so I'm gonna guess it's 1990+.
theRuler
its an oddball alright.
staring hard at that pic (its the only one i have) are there little platforms on the chainstays at the back?
86waterpumper
Here is my 89 I am tinkering with. I have some pro compe bars on the way, and the curved style forks coming as well, all I have done so far is put the compact disc on it, and also a drainpipe seatpost, this one is just going to be a rider, so I'm not going for exact period correctness lol.

Matt. I was in contact with that seller about that f/f over a year ago. He wanted $200 for it then. He sent me the SN which didn't seem right, so I let it pass...
ScottZJ
Well Here is a Dyno that I just won for around 100$ beans. It looks to be a nice project to mess with.

jesboogie
I had the team model in that ^^^^^^^^ color and I loved that bike! Very light, handled well, looked great. Don't remember how or why I got rid of it. Prior to owning that, I used dyno forks on my pro performer for about a year. Dynos rawk,

Jesse D
86waterpumper
Why did people use the dyno forks on the performers for? I can sort of see why if they were the doglegged type, for more wheelbase etc, but like on the 88 performer thread http://www.vintagebmx.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...=3;t=004239;p=2,, that 89 I got off ebay has dyno forks on it too of the straight variety and I don't get that.

MJ
Scott...looks like you got that Dyno from Matt...unless you have blue walls too!
MJ
Oh yeah and Ruler....the dropouts on that chrome frame scream Slammer.
ScottZJ
Yes MJ I did snag that sucker from Matt. Cant wait to get my hands on it and tweak it to my specs, but from the looks of it, I might not need to do much to it haha.
crowdaddy
Picking up a 88/89 Detour complete Thursday for $20 locally. I'll have pics soon.
rimspoke2
look ing for chrome dtour bars and drainpipe seatpost if any one has. Ckevlar@yahoo.com
86waterpumper
rimspoke, there are always tons of drainpipe seatposts on ebay, I bought one for 6 bucks a week or two ago, and the guy had tons, look to be new old stock off 90's models judging from the sticker, but those are easily peeled off hehe

rimspoke2
yeah got one of those, but the originals had dyno stamped into them. Thanks though
87FreestyleCollector
rimspoke2, What year are you building? I have a complete chrome 87 d-tour similar to the blue one above. Thinking of selling or parting out. Bike is in mint condition.

thanks MJ. what year(s) were they made (in that style) ?
FreeEnterprise
I was always breaking forks, so I rode GT forks on my dyno's because they held up better, and the front end seemed faster with the gt forks.

but, back when I rode a pro freestyle tour, I had Dyno forks on it.

http://www.msnusers.com/OldSchoolFlatland/...hoto&PhotoID=32

I think back then I just wanted a "Custom" bike so we would alway switch parts around, until we found things that "felt" right.

I have a picture of one of my buddies riding a master with Dyno forks too.
86waterpumper
The old doglegged dyno forks looked cool I guess if nothing else, one of the things I think that kept the dynos from looking so ordinary, since they didn't have any spectacular frame bends etc. FreeEnterprise, in that last pic, what is that attached to the side of your seatpost?
MJ
Ruler....I believe the Slammer first appeared around 90/91. They were the aptly named Slammer as they originally were equipped with a bashguard....yours of course minus bashguard.
Anybody got pics of a Slammer?
86waterpumper
the slammer came out in 90. I have the first test of it out of bmx plus if someone wants me to scan it I will be happy to.
ScottZJ
Here is my D-Tour(thanks matt). Cleaned her up some but going to need some lubing.

Matt S.
Scott, good luck with it. I sold it pretty much how I got it a while back, which overall wasn't too bad. It already looks 10 times better!!!

-Matt
MJ
Wow a little TLC and it looks new! Congrats!

And as for the NOS F/F from Abad???n...It's a very early model with no DYNO stamp on the single rear brace.
Hey Matt does your green machine have the stamp or no??
Pauly
No dyno stamp? Hmmm.... I bought a D-30 Compe complete in 85 and it had a stamp. I've never heard of one without a stamp.
crowdaddy
Just picked up last night for $20

crowdaddy
She is in need of some real TLC. But for the most part a good solid bike. I Think I will get her ridable and put up for sale. I anyone is interested let me know.
Canuck - Anthony_B
Its a Slammer from like 90-91.

AB
Pauly
Dynos are still moving up...
Never imagined I'd get this much for mine...

COOL RL Paulie Thats good money ....here is one of my favorite rides

Not Eddie Roman
I would have killed for a Voelker-style Pro Compe Team back in the day—red frame fork and bars, Superlace wheels, Power Series cranks, and a pair of lavender Shimano DX pedals.

Would still be cool to have now, although it would just bum me out because it just wouldn't be the same as it would have been to have it in '88.
