My son, Grayson Ammon, is 6 years old and has been riding park for 8 months now and has progressed quickly. Here is a video of him hitting a good size box jump at our local indoor skatepark.

Is there any kind of competitions for these little guys? He also is a nationally ranked racer and loves to compete and I would love to see a competition that he could get involved in. Thanks for your input.

nice jump! looks at home in the park. is he on a 16" or 18" bike? got my lil 6 year old spending more time at the parks these days...going to have to show him this to get him pumped for trying bigger jumps.

we've got a couple comps here at our local park, i think its categorized by age and proficiency (hey...kinda like bmx racing!), but i think its like 10 and under, 11-16 and 17+. they have novice and experts i think. lots of young kids throwing some nice tricks flying out of there thats for sure. id check your lbs for the latest info on any up and coming comps and get your boy into them.

Its a 16" Redline Pitboss. Thanks for the heads up on the comps, I'll check with our lbs.

Awesome skills for a 6 year old. My 5 year old loves the park too. He gets his 16" Haro for Christmas. How much does the Redline weigh?

Cool, He's jumping great for age 6. I've just picked up a Pit Boss for my boy, it's a nice bike and very light at around 15lb.

Is that an aluminum frame? 15lbs is really light.

The frame is aluminum. We have made some modifications to the bike, okay really the only thing that is original is the frame, but its down to a little under 13 lbs. I posted this video a few months ago and this jump for him is already easy, he's moving on to bigger and better things now. The pitboss is the way to go for little rippers. Thanks for the comments guys!

Pretty impressive! The 180 to fakey is awesome for his age. Does he normally ride with no pads?

Thanks, the pad thing is always an issue with him. It's something we are working on since he is starting to go big!

Can you share with me what you did to make it so much lighter? Doing one for my 5 year old who is a little small for his age. Starting with a stock pitboss. Would appreciate the info. Thanks!

Sure. We installed a Sinz Ti bottom bracket, had the legend Mr. Kovachi build us new wheels with bombshell hubs, changed the gearing and cranks to answer. Running 35-13 with 140mm cranks and changed to aluminum MCS bars (not sure if they are lighter, but they certainly aren't heavier). Oh and took the stickers off that is what got us under 13, lol.
