During our Senior year of High School we took our riding to the masses, the local cancer telethon lol. This was a lot of fun to do, we were nervous but I think we did a fairly decent job. Jerry's announcing is top notch. biggrin.gif

This is so cool. How awesome for you guys to have had this opportunity, and how awesome that you still have the video to remember it all! Thanks for posting -- interesting to see how similar our scenes were in terms of the tricks we learned, the terminology and all that. We never got to be on TV, though.

One observation, though -- it seems like any time Jerry said, "Let's see if he can pull out of this," it kind of cursed you!

Aint that the truth! I had the curse the whole night!

We appeared on the news a few days before the Telethon, here's the clip:

TheR,

Good point, I think that for most of us out there, the tricks and the rate we learned them at was mostly dictated by the magazines. Something new would come out and we had to try to learn it, abandoning anything "original" we might have been working on.

Sure, there were some pockets of the country/world that came up with entirely new tricks/styles (Plywood Hoods for example) but for the most part, I think that most of us were struggling to keep up with the Joneses.

With regards to Jerry's announcing, we weren't going to have an announcer at all, but the telethon people though it would be a good idea. So essentially he was thrown into the role, so I can't blame him too much. That being said, the saying "close but no cig" has been a catchphrase for us ever since that appearance.

I caught the first video earlier at home. That is very cool you guys were able to get on the show, and that you still have a tape of it. That reminds me of me and my friends too back then. The tricks, wearing the Haro pants, pretty freakin' awesome stuff.
STRIKE
Heh, glad I could help ya relive a bit of the old days. I'm going to be uploading a lot more stuff as I find time, so keep watching my channel.

Yeah, my annoucing is'nt the best, but I didn't know I was going to annouce so I had no practice and it was in the middle of the night. Wasn't it like 2 or 3 in the morning?

Yeah, that, and you were a 17 or 18 year old kid with no experience at that kind of thing. Don't be too hard on yourself. Overall, it looked like the experience was pretty cool.

Great stuff. You guys were pulling some nice tricks. Thanks for sharing that. I remember going out to ride on Friday nights with buddies, and we'd be wearing the Haro and GT uniforms.. it didnt matter if it was the middle of the summer, and was 90 degrees.. haha. Had to at least "look" like we knew what we were doing!

I still have the Haro leathers from that show, but I'd like to find another one of the matching red, white, blue Haro jerseys. That was a fun time. We got to feel important for about 10 minutes. LOL
Paul Springer
Great job guys, very impressive with the limited space you had to preform. good2.gif
STRIKE
Thanks Paul, since this was the middle of winter, we were used to riding in basements, so that was actually quite a bit of space for us! biggrin.gif
King of Pipeline
I never did ride in Strikes basement. That was very small. And the time you guys even had a very little small ramp down there??? Am I remembering right.???
STRIKE
Yeah, I'll post some video from the base if I ever stumble across it.
