Just curious. That must've been pretty cool to see the first chrome plated bike when it came out! I'm guessing the first chrome plated freestyle specific bike would've been either by Torker or Haro? My guess for a race specific bike would be Mongoose?

I don't know what the first one was, but I remember the first one I ever saw. I had just gotten my Webco and a friend told me he had a bike and we could go riding together. He comes out on this chrome Robinson. I had never seen anything like it. I thought it was beautiful.

The first chrome freestyle frameset would have been the Haro Freestyler in 1982. But there were chrome plated bikes before that.

My brother had a chrome plated Huffy Pro Thunder, but that was like 1982 or 1983, so chrome plated bikes weren't as a big a deal at that point, I guess.

CWracer, that's exactly what got me wondering about this. What a cool idea it was (whoever thought of it first??) to chrome plate a bicycle frame. I know motorcycles were already being chromed for years earlier. But as a kid seeing painted bikes all the time and then one day seeing your first chrome bike. I remember the first time I saw a chrome bike, it was a Mongoose. That's when I fell in love with bikes. And then all of the innovations, colors, etc. that came after just kept me hooked!

Well, Haro was the first FS frame and was available in chrome at the time...

I owned a Team Murray X20-R
in the early 80's. It had to be 1981 to 1982.
It was a chrome plated BMX Toys R Us special.
