Full Version: '92 Auburn ? HELP ....
VintageBMX.com > VintageBMX Talk > Mid School BMX
Mr. Smith
I got this '92 Aubrun CR20RX off of the bay.

Never thought nothing of the gussett in the pic provided...

then I put it up for sale and someone said ,.,

that gussett ain't factory. Tell ya what it's a professional job.

Matches the pattern of the other tig welds on the frame. Looks like factory.

It's symetricall on both sides. Super quality job !

Is it factory ? Is this a factory rider frame ? There was a bolt in the upper chain stay broke off in the frame I had to remove so this was riden hard.

Some input please ....

I dont think Auburn ever used those style gussets except maybe on that late 96 Aluminum frame. Sorry I say its aftermarket.

I've got 14 Auburns and I've never seen one like that. I think it's a repair.

14 Auburns ... that has to be the largest Auburn collection out there.

Thanks guys.

One more ? Please.

Do you feel that it devalues the F/F ... having the gussett ?
Racer
Yes value wise for sure. It was probably cracked and thats the repair. But if you plan to keep the bike just get the repair repaired by the Frame Doctor or someone who knows BMX bikes with new powder and decals it could look NOS and be your pride and joy.

Racer ...

No offense but that gussett is professionally done and unique.

F' spending more money ... bead blast and powder as is.

Polish up the rear and call it done or go all survivor.

Bottom line people want perfect condition and pay dirt.

Especially now whether from the US or not in the US they know the mental financial state the media put us in. It's as bad as their weather predictions ... HA HA !

Thank you for your honesty and all your help ...

I respect you ! Racer !

Rob

p.s when was the the the las time you saw a pre Gt Auburn for sale ?

Anyone ... Buehler ... Buehler ?
Mr. Smith
When it's my time it will be done right.

But I won't take any losses on this.

PERIOD !

If I were going to build it for myself, I would leave the gussett there. It actually looks kinda cool.

14 Auburns is a lot, but it's more quantity than quality. I've only got 5 nice ones.
Racer
Yeah lots of people would just leave it. Id rather sell it then leave it lol. I totally understand not wanting to put more money into it though. I was just saying if you want a pure Auburn it would need to get repaired but for a rider Im sure its fine and does have its own cool flair.

I'm going to keep it. Nobody wants to pay shi+ for anything right now anyway.

If I sold it and wanted to buy one later it would be going for twice as much.

It's getting bead blasted and powdered black and then it will look sweet.

It F'in pisses me off that everyone refers to it as a repair but what about the concept of precautionary gussett added for strenght.

There is no signs of this being repaired. I mean it is an XL 20 1/2" maybe someone thought it was safest to add the gussett BEFORE it broke.

Besides it does have it's own flare and was professionally done.

I seen my fair share of azz work and this is a pro job.

God damn internet and peoples opinions !
