Full Version: Brand X Forks HELP!

Just bought a pair of 20" brand x forks on ebay (haven"t received yet) with the hope of reducing them to 16" for a pit bike. Going by photos only I'm asuming that when the crown bolts are loosened, the fork leg tubes can be removed. Is this true? Are they screwed in?pressed in? Even if this can be done is this a bad idea? Are they classic? When were they made? History? Thanks.

I believe they are clamped in and could be cut down.

i wouldn't chop up a pair of brand x.
i loved the pair i had, wish my tm didnt dump his shop with my forks in them.
but as i recall yes the legs are clamped in. but there may be a lip on the crown that keeps them from being pushed all the way thru.
also does yours have the fork race already with it?
one thing that was a pain was that the steertube was straight all the way down, it didn't enlarge near the crown to allow a race to sit.
always had to buy special aluminum races made for such types. tho if you have a lathe handy its a simple task to make one.

Man! Cutting forks is always going to put you on some really thin ice. If you plan on ever getting ANY air with this bike, including pit stunts, I think I would skip cutting forks. Sorry for the downer here, but broken forks never bring anything good, even on a pit bike.
