ROCKFORD 2010
Run in conjunction with the ABA Midwest Nationals!

WOW! Last year was so off the hook, it is impossible to imagine topping it. But the 2010 installment promises to equal, or maybe edge past it.

Yes, we are doing it the same way. Sorry if it was not to your liking.

Did you make it to the event last year, or just stay home due to the prospect of assigned spaces?

Mike, it might be a good idea to advertise this event locally. I don't think anyone in Rockford knows about these events. It went on for 9 years under my nose without me knowing, and I was blown away when someone finally told me about it.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Windy BITD. She was at Craigmeur in 79 covering the Craigmeur race. She was so pretty I just had to say hi. She said she liked my straw cowboy hat. So she tried it on. I was to nervous to really talk to her though. Still a cool lil memory. Her, Bob, John Kerr and Gibey took some awesome photos.

You must be one of the only ones who didn't know it was here all these years!! LOL Most guy's that raced at Searls Park back in the day know of this event. I just started going back to the track to watch some of my friends race back in 1998 and started going back to the National every year, then started bring bikes in 2003.
MikeCarruth
It is a tough mix to advertise an event like this to the general public. Naturally, I want old school BMXers who used to be in it BITD to hear about it...but I also don't want a lot of non-industry riff raff sleazing around. The more of that you get, the more bikes get stolen and the more security problems you have in general.

All told, I'd be content to forgo the few old schoolers who might hear about it through a general ad campaign and make the event extra-special (and safe) for those who ARE there.

But your point is well taken aside from our specific reason not to do so.

M

Sorry we won't see you Saturday. Friday morning is no problem, just purchase a site supporter membership through the eventbrite page and you're in. Friday night could be a little more tricky, since there are bound to be a ton of people who have full tickets wanting to get in. We don't sell those tickets separately, as it is intended to be part of a full weekend of events.

Depending how bad you want to be there, you could just pay the $40 for Friday night, get the goodie bag and T-Shirt, and put your Saturday dinner up for sale for anyone who might be interested. That would strictly be a "between you guys" kind of thing, but it is not against the rules.

Hope this helps.

Best,

M

I've never attended and I have a few questions.

A- where to fly into? (Coming from NC it'll be easier to fly)
B-Will I have to rent a car to get around?

You could fly into either Chicago or Milwaukee. Generally, I fly our guests into Chicago, because some of them like to take the day after the event and see the city, or catch a Cubs game (no diss on the Sox, but Wrigley is a place you gotta see).

Chicago O'Hare is about an hour closer to Rockford than Chicago Midway is, but Southwest Airlines typically has great fares into Midway, so that could make it worthwhile.

I am one of those "convenience" freaks, so I would not do it without renting a car. But it can definitely be done. There is a bus that goes from O'hare and Midway to Rockford, which lets you out just across the freeway from the Clocktower (about 1/4 mile away). The place is full of people who are going over to the track, or coming back to the Clocktower, so it should be no problem to bum a ride here and there. One reason I planned all of the evening events at the hotel is so people don't have to drive to get there, and can concentrate on having fun and being with their bros.

Feel free to post any more questions, as I'm sure more people need this information.

Mike,

Congrats on getting Windy as an honored guest - a fine choice. I regret I will not make it to the Rock this year, for once I am doing what my family wants me to do on that weekend. I would have loved to hear her stories and I have to imagine that she will deliver a killer slide show. Have a great event, people! Keep it fun!

The Saturday morning/afternoon bike show is a free event, and all are welcomed. Tickets are needed for the Saturday evening banquet at the Clocktower Resort, which features a sit-down dinner and speaker Windy Osborn.

Hope to see you all there!

Slight change in plans. It seems that the OM is not going to be available for this year's show afterall. Thus, we have changed this year's guest for the Site Supporter Breakfast, and will welcome Toby Henderson instead. Toby will be an awesome guest, as he brings a perspective from all eras of the sport, from the way-early days up to the present, as CEO of VSI Products (Intense BMX, T.H.E., Sinz and Speed).

Toby will also be our on-stage, celebrity interviewer for the Saturday night chat with Windy.

I am absolutely stoked that Toby agreed to join us in Rockford. Wow! Only 26 days to go!

M

When can we sign up for our spots?

I lost the web form I had for it last year, and need to re-create it. Working on that as we speak. So, hopefully by the end of the weekend, the first emails will go out.

Thanks for checking in.

Mike and Crew:

It doesn't look like I will be able to make The Rock 2010. I would really love to visit with Windy and all of you but it doesn't seem to be possible this year. Thank you again for letting me be part of the 2009 success story. I look back at that as one of my bmx highlights for sure and I enjoyed working with everyone on that project.

MC: You are doing a great job, and I am so proud of what you are accomplishing. Keep it up!
