Crazy money.

The picture of that Bravo Pro in the pic looks mean. Bad ash.

I've always said some prices are worth it to some people. That definitely would not be worth it to me.

What makes the SST post so special? The internal brace? Knurling at the top? Sticker? Please don't just say "because it's rare" biggrin.gif
I mean, hey it's just a piece of tube. That's ridiculous.
bravo_pro
@timo ...
thats no knurling at the top , its scratched ....

nonetheless , one of the strongest seatposts ever made ....

Well actually, "because it's rare" is a perfectly valid explanation, based on the law of supply and demand. Actually, the full explanation is "because it's rare, and apparently the demand for that commodity exceeds its supply."

But yeah, still.

Thanks, that explains. Supply & demand works in mysterious ways. The outrageous price would be easier to understand though say, if they were cut and shaped by mr. Scura (?) himself at the back of his garage which apparently is not the case, or is it? Who was the actual manufacturer of these anyway?

Wow! Wonder what my NOS one would go for?

Well, it explains the cost, but like you said, it doesn't explain why it's in such demand. I certainly don't understand buying an $800 seat post.

I don't know, but I would sell it for sure. I'd much rather have that kind of money than a seat post.

That has to be a joke.. I bet the winner whoever that was is not a real buyer..

I've been offered that kind of money for one of mine. I'm not saying that makes it ok by any means, but it doesn't shock me either. I know two things, first they are some what rare and second they don't bend. They were the best seat posts ever made, at least in the 80's by a long shot. I never bent one. I still have all my original posts Brian gave me back in the early 80's. Used them on my Trick Stars and on my DB's.. Still straight to this day.

Trust me, I wish they weren't so expensive, I still need one more lay back post myself..

Yeah, I understand that they're quality, and you've shed a little light on why they're in such demand. But wow! If I had one, I would sell it to you for half that price and still walk away from that transaction happy -- maybe even a little guilty.

I hear you loud and clear on that one. Trust me, I went through sticker shock myself a few years ago when all I needed was a set of black Hutch FS Tires, some ACS potts mod levers, a pair of hutch freestyle cages, and a set of black/grey AME unitrons to finish off one of my bikes.. I figured for 100 bucks or so, I would be all set to finish my bike. This was before I saw "vintage parts" selling for hundreds or even thousands of dollars on ebay. I couldn't believe was I was seeing. Not to mention the stuff I was looking for didn't appear for sale for months on end. I saw all kinds of stuff that I gave away selling for big $$$. If it wasn't for finding this board, I might still be looking for some of those parts. So I'm right there with you guys for sure on this. If you have them to sell, good on you. If your looking to buy, ouch. In either case, I sure have a better understanding of what it means and takes to be a collector in this hobby, patience.
indylodown
If you rechromed it, it wouldn't be original anymore, would it? The original finish would be gone and the sticker probably a repop. Would it still go for the big bucks? ...just wonderin huh.gif
