Just curious if anyone else is as stuck in the 80's as I am? lol. I have a pretty good collection of 80's movies/music. I would love to start collecting 80's era SWATCH watches, I'm afraid to see what they go for on ebay?! Right now I just keep checking out the local thrift stores hoping to get lucky.

I have a pretty good collection of 80's music videos, mostly hard rock and metal, but getting more and more into the pop and alternative stuff.
While not really 80's, but I have a fair collection of Beavis and Butt-head things.
which reminds me, I need to get it all together and take some pics and update my list.

I used to collect ALF stuff until ebay came along and ruined it. Without the hunt it just wasn't fun. Now the kids have a big box of ALF toys to play with.
I used to collect wall tapestries too, but those are more 70s.

Of course movies/music, but also video games. I have a HUGE collection of Atari 2600 and Nintendo NES games, which also get tons of play time, on my original, childhood consoles. I recently started collecting Colecovision games as well, since a neighbor gave me a great working console a year or so ago.

Heres a Don Post rubber mask i own. Almost smashed the shop up trying to get to it though, I saw it on the top of a cupboard, went to put it back to think about it, didnt realise that the cupboard had no top to it and it fell through and i heard a huge smash, the thing i broke cost 50p, which was very close to something that cost £500 that didnt break

Yeah kind of, Theyre from the UK like myself, Theyre called Action Man basically GI Joe for the UK, theyre early 70's, the legendary eagle eyes is there too

The plastic headed ones are from around '66 the very first ones. The rarest i have, i bizarrely didnt photograph very well, (You can just make him out in the pic with the American soldiers helmet on), He's one of the very first line up that came out and has all of his tools. I have got GI Joes. The black soldier in the pics is a GI Joe, He was made in about '89 on the re-realease of the toy. He's pretty rare.

Cool stuff. Here's a few of the 12" Star Wars figures. These are a few pix I've posted before. Almost all of my Star Wars toys are packed away right now. I was planing on moving a while ago, put them all away, didn't move, but then never got them out again. Some day I'll set it all up again.

Alf? I have an Alf, lol. I have one of the puppets too from BK but I cut his hair and colored it with a sharpie and made him a punk rocker. Not sure where that is now but I know its put away somewhere.

This is a shot of my room at my parents house back in the 90's. I was into all kinds of action figures at that time. I sold most of those but still have tons of Star Wars. (Those Trick Stars are gone too. They were NOS out of a shop at that time.)

Yep, Star Wars geek am I.
Here's my collection that I have in storage. Pretty much every figure/character released with the exception of different variations (like the plastic-caped Jawa). All from my childhood. I've got a ton of ships and whatnot also. Someday I'm going to make a killer glass-topped coffee table/diorama with various scenes from the original trilogy (sand, jungle, snow...)

And I also have all of the coolest Fisher Price Adventure People playsets in storage. These came out in '75 and really pioneered the 3 3/4" action figure, though were eclipsed by SW and GI Joe soon after.

I had that Adventure People van with the kayak wayyyyyy back in the day. I also had a lot of Star Wars people. I collected some of the newer figures when they came out in the mid-late 90s, but only a few -- Darth Vader, some Stormtroopers. I think I have a newer Han Solo. The old Kenner Star Wars figures I had are at my mom's -- they're all over the place and in various conditions. I don't think I have too many of the old parts like guns and capes, etc., but I know we had a lot of them. I haven't seen them in years, though. Axle -- that diarama/dsiplay case you were talking about sounds like a good idea. Actually, just lining them up on that shelf like that is pretty cool. How did you keep them standing and all the dust away?

I've noticed that the Adventure People have been forgotten by most people our age, though many of us played with them. I suppose it has a lot to do with the fact that they never had a movie or Saturday morning cartoon or comic book or cereal or lunchbox, etc.
They really bring me back to a time of childhood innocence. What is really great about them as a developemental toy for kids is that they didn't have guns or weapons, and they weren't marketed with any sort of preconceived notion about their character... one was able to use their imagination when adventuring.
I bought (basically) the whole collection (minus the space stuff, which I think was a weak attempt to compete with the Star Wars market) in the event that I should ever have kids. I don't know if that will ever happen, but I'll hang onto them just the same. Maybe when the weather gets better I'll take them out to the woods and take some nice pics of them in different scenarios.
On occasion I've even thought about writing short scripts and making stop-motion videos with the figures and put them up on YouTube or something. Doubt I'll ever go that far with it though. I'd at least like to have some cool T-shirts made up... you'd be amazed how many of our generation remembers these toys once their memory is jogged.
I was pleased last month to see a similar line of toys at Wal*Mart. I think they were called the "Imagination Adventure" series. Same basic concept.
As for the SW collection; I bought some individual stands for the figures. They're like flat, black poker chips with just one tiny nub to stick in the hole in the sole of the figures foot.
I bought them from this site over ten years ago, when I used to get their catalog in the mail. Aside from the stands and small, figure-sized ziplocks to store the figures with their guns when not on display, I don't think I've ever bought from them, but it looks like they have boatloads of all sort's of 80's toys.
http://www.brianstoys.com/store/default.aspxAs for the dust issue, I haven't yet had to face that. I think I had them on display for six months, and then I packed them up and moved. Same thing six months later. I got tired of that and have them in storage until I buy a place and/or I make the diorama (which I'm kind of thinking won't be for a while). Being in a glass case some day I would think will decrease the accumulation of dust. Really, though, even after six months I only noticed some dust on the plastic stands and on the shelf itself.
Aside from all that stuff that is in storage, I do have one glass display case in my room right now, with various figures in it that include: Mr. Blonde from Reservoir Dogs. A 70's squeakie-toy of Dopey from the seven dwarves, an 80's Green Lantern. That cool figure of that Japanese anime girl doing a backyard on a flatland bike, some "Where the Wild Things Are" figures (a few years old, before the movie), Utah Jazz's John Stockton, Rocky Marciano, Buzz Lightyear, and more...

I have alot of adventure people too. Some stuff is mine, some is my wifes...we both kept alot of toys from our childhood.
It would be interesting to get it all together and take a photo of it.
My wife was really "nice" to her toys, and alot are in MINT shape, while mine were "played with"...and I was not easy on them...but we have a nice collection of Fisher Price, Barbie, and Hotwheels toys from the 1970's.
I recently found an old 1970's flyer for a retailer that carried Fisher Preice and Adventure people...1/2 of the items in the flyer, are in my basement...cool stuff.
I also let my 2 kids play with ALL the toys...my son is now 9 and has played with Adventure People since he was born, and my daughter is 4, and has played with all my wifes 70's toys since she was born as well.
Something VERY cool about seeing my kids play with the EXACT toys I played with as a kid.
A something very funny...give them the choice of what to play with....it is the old toys over the new ones. I will admitt, they both like their video games, and "current" electronic toys, but when it comes to figures, trucks etc...there is nothing like the "old toys"...great stuff.
Oh, and I have ALL of my Hotwheels from my childhood as well. My son LOVES Hotwheels,a nd we like racing his "new" Hotwheels cars against my "old" Hotwheels cars...quite a rivalry in the house !!!
My wife has also kept all of her old board games from when she was a kid....some really cool stuff in our games closet...all 1970's originals...the kids love these as well.

Yes! I remember these. When I was 3 or 4, before I could read, and before I saw the Star Wars movies, my mom bought me that gold one (the one you have in the photo) at K-Mart because I thought it was C-3PO. I was trying to remember the name when we were talking about these old toys, but I couldn't remember it. Micronauts! I think I also had a Micronaut that was blue, and fit in a blue King Tut-like coffin. Only I don't think it was his coffin, it was his time machine. That toy is long gone!

I knew I wasn't making this stuff up:
http://www.innerspaceonline.com/new%20pharoid%20page.htmI was really young when this came out -- like 4 or 5. For some reason, I remember playing with it in the back of my Aunt's car, on a trip to a nearby town. That's the only memory I have of playing with it. I don't remember the guy looking so goofy, though.

i never stopped buying LEGO. especially the train and town sets from the 80s and early 90s. some from the 60s and 70s as well.
pieces from some of my fav sets:

i'm pretty sure i own somewhere between 200 kg (440 lbs) and 400 kg (880 lbs) of bricks at the moment, wich isn't even much compared to other collections. problem is ... i ran out of space.

Legos could be -- overall -- the most awesome toy ever created. I used to have a bunch of space sets as a kid. Now, whenever we have a toy drive at work for Christmas, I always go out and find a few nice sets to donate. I figure you can't go wrong with Legos. Kids love them.
For the record, I don't collect any of this stuff -- not even old school bikes. I still have my old bike and some of my old toys just because I hold onto them and take care of things, but I'm not really a collector. But this thread has really taken me back to some of the things that I had largely forgotten about. Thanks everyone!
