What colors looked the best on 87 Pro Performers?
And what color grips, seat, tires, ect. came on that color? The original color was purple, and I've got all the stickers sanded down, ready to be spray canned. If it makes a differene, I'm putting my White Skyways on

EDIT: Sorry to bug you all again

To make it look cool change it to black accessories. I like matchin things up as original as possible sometimes things dont look to good when colors and parts with years arent matched up properly, my opinion

So purple Frame, Fork, Seat Post and Bars, and Black Accesories?
Axlepeg
I would kinda do a Martin Aparijo-ish tribute.

First: No mags. They were totally played out by '87. Chrome rims.

Black frame with all black soft parts, and the stem and levers and powerdisc. Stock decals. Forks the soft blue, same as the decals. Bars, same blue or possibly chrome to match the seatpost. Then just a touch of white; cables and seatclamp.
All that is just spitballing.

I was just saying I'd go with a black frame, were I to build one, that's all; and I like how Martin and Eddie swapped forks and bars and seatpost colors around frequently. My opinion is that those combos were ahead of their time, and more aesthetically pleasing. I always thought that most stock complete painted GT's always had too much of the main color all over the bike in a cookie cutter way. But that's just me, for my personal build. I can still dig it when I see an old ad or see a new factory correct build.

Build it your way, bro. This project is about satisfying yourself!

Just as an example, the only scanned image of Martin I presently have on my computer: Dig how he sprinkled that chrome frame with purple, orange, black and white parts. Not too much and not to many. Unorthodox, but still balanced and appealing.

Dare to be different. Be creative. Most of all, have fun...

and http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r183/ca...bikes/gt040.jpg (Black one)

Edit: I will probably do it Black Frame, Grips, Seat, Tires, Brake Lever and Pedals.
White Fork, Bars, Seat Clamp and use a Black and White Lee-Chi Sprocket (If I don't find a better one)
Chrome Cranks, Wheels and Frame Standers.

T'was what I was thinking

Nice. If you sketch it out roughly to see how it'll look you'll save yourself time and money so you can play with it like that. I never have sketched a work in progress myself, but I like to really see a project in front of me and drag it out for a decade and waste a ton of time and money.

Colors for seatclamp and stem?

I beg you to not put Lee-Chi anything on it...

Were they crappy?

Would a GT Mid School Sprocket do better, haha. Or a Tioga Disc that resembles a saw blade tongue.gif

Ermmmmmmmmm Idk what color for the stem (which is black now) or Clamp? I have the original stem, but the paint is scratched up, and I dont' wanna take any chances re painting it, unless it'll be worth it?

Dude you gotta go Day-Glo Pink! ;-) Here's my '87 Pro Performer, Martin-esque, how she's been for 20+ years...

I also always loved all white '87 Pro Performers.. I remember one in a test.. American Freestyler, I think.. that was the final straw, that I HAD to have one. However, once my dad and I made it to Rockville, and I saw the Day-Glo Pink in person...

:-)

I always loved that pic of Martin. Personally, My favorite GT color was blue. I remember going into my local shop bitd and seeing a row of all the new GT's. Green, Purple, White, etc. But the blue really caught my eye.

I thought GT only had one type of blue? Was that what it was called? We always called it GT blue, lol. It's the same color as the new flick trix Pro Performer.

Yes, they did make the 87's in black. I had three of them in the past couple of years.

I've always liked the all chrome performers. I have an original chrome '89 with the original blue decals and it looks awesome. I also like the idea of a blank frame with chrome forks and black/chrome components. smile.gif I'm biased on that as well though because my Dyno from back in the day that I still have had that color scheme.
DemonGT
do neon yellow with black parts wink.gif

I love GT/Dyno day glo pink. My brother had a Dyno that color.
