Anyone know what is going on with this BMX track in yorkville, IL?
last time I was out there in the fall 2009 all the dirt
was laid down and jumps and rollers were built
and there was no starting gate or fence, but it was all weeds.
Looked like a lot of weedkiller and some smoothing and raking
was all that was needed!
It was built in late 2008 and mudslingers bike shop website
had it posted with an opening day in summer 2009?

some say it is going to be a non-sanctioned practice track
without a starting gate or with a starting gate?

some say it was designed by the ABA and it will be a
sanctioned ABA track

some say it was torn up by kids on atv's and dirtbikes
and that is what made it not open in 2009

some say because of the economy the funding for a
fence from the park district was not happening

some say because of the subdivision it is in that
the "association" or owners won't allow it because
they don't want kids riding bikes through their yards
to get to the track?

I called the yorkville park district last fall and I called Mudslingers bike shop
and didn't get any answers

Anyone know the real story?

PM me if you can't post it on here if you wan't to remain anonymous

kind of a waste to have a track that close and not be able to use it for that long!!!

It's a done deal, done as in not going to happen.

I guess they built the track in the center of a new sub division and the homeowners put the veto on the idea. It's there, it's just mostly grassed over. I think Chuck Groh from Elgin was one of the people working on getting it up and running.

It sucks, it would have been awesome to have three tracks in the area, but with Elgin racing Saturdays and Rockford Sundays, where would Yorkville fit in? It would almost surely have to be an NBL track, but everything I heard pointed ABA.

You guys do not know what you are talking about. The track will be finished this year unless something unforseen happens. The reason that it did not get finished last year is because it was delayed due to some storm water drainage pipes that were put in to help keep the track from flooding and some other delays with the actual park build itself. We were also hoping to get some clay to top off the track with to make it better but due to time and mostly budget reasons that is not going to happen at this time. The parks department is hoping to get out there soon to finish roughing in the track and then we will probably schedule a track maintenance day for the public to come and help to put on the finishing touches and hopefully have an open house with Mudslingers and a few of their riders.

The track was built to an ABA design but it "will not" have a gate or sanctioned races. The location is not suited for that. This is just a "FEELER" track to see how well it goes over. We are hoping to build a Reginal Park some year that will support many sports and a BMX track and skatepark is planned to be part of that park. Unfortunately, due to the economic times, we do not see that happening any time in the near future.

sorry we are so "un-informed"

but we have actually been in contact numerous times with your office directly, as well as others that are directly involved in aspects of it as well

glad to see finally that something will be done with it though
that thing has looked like crap for what "feels" like ages to some of us locals

I knew of the track but have nothing to do with it, I was involved with a pump track in Carpentersville that was approved of but is still in limbo of when it will be built, the park dist and city lawyers cant come to agreement of who will be responsible for the insurance.

joelwitte
Cambr is trying to raise $10,000 for you guys so it can get finished
i was unaware about the insurance ordeal though
