I am new here, its very nice to meet you all, and hello from sunny Melbourne, Australia (I am originally from the UK).
I am hoping that you guys will be able to help me out on my quest to regain my lost youth....
I am probably doing the same as a few people on this board - just turned 40, going through a retro phase and getting back into something that I totally loved as a child.
Dont' worry, I am not going to be some over 40 dude who breaks a collar bone doing something stupid on a half pipe.
No, I am just looking to build up a few old school bmx bikes, to remind me of when I was a kid and also to educate my daughter on where bmx comes from, and also the fact that Dad did can be cool at times.
So I am just getting back into this, and hopefully as the months go by I'll have the opportunity to play with some old school Mongoose, Kuwahara, Powerlite, Redline, Diamond Back, Skyway, Robinson etc
I kick started my project by going to look at buying a 1980 Mongoose Motomag last week, but when I got there the guy decided he wanted more money than what we had agreed upon. So I let that one go.
However, I have come across a Powerlite Freestyle frame - serial # WYX7E0067
I have been trying to identify it's build year but there doesn't seem to be much on the net.
It is the frame that has the "U" bracket on the crossbar
I need to get some forks for it, but I am unsure as to what type or size of forks to get.
In my day it was all quite simple (or at least I thought it was) as everything fit.
Having done some research it seems that there are different sizes available, and different threads.
I was just thinking I should get an old/vintage set of Tange forks and stick them on, but I am not sure if they would fit.
I would really appreciate it if someone could give me some advice on this frame I have and which forks would go best with it.
I have measured the head tube and it is 4" not including the lips that receive the bearings
Thanks
Matt
