Well I was putting our little blokes Australian made Supermax CrMo together for Christmas a few months back, and I needed some forks..so I went on the hunt for OEM Tange TRX forks (what the Supermax originally came with)...I eventually found some on US Ebay. They were actually matched with a nasty old Schwinn Frame, but the price was right so I hit the BIN and told the seller to keep the frame and just sent the forks.

Well a few weeks later they arrived. When I pulled them out of the box, they were in great condition, but I found that they didn't have the ovalised TRX tubing...however they are stamped Tange "1G" on the steerer and had the exact same TRX drop outs..So they looked identical to my Kuwahara KZ-1 forks...so I thought that's cool, I'll use them anyway. Fast forward about 4 weeks, to the day before Christmas, and I was scrambling putting the bike together for Christmas day, all was going well, until I slipped the forks on...bip bow. No go. The (uncut)steerer is way to short for a standard 4" headtube...So I had no choice but to raid my KZ-1 and slip the forks straight onto the Supermax.

So I'm trying to work out what they are. They look like they are meant for a 3" head tube?? Now what has a 3" head tube? (Mini's?). I've just sat them in place on my Kuwahara until I can find another set of TRX forks to put on the Supermax and put the Kuwahara forks back on the KZ-1. As you can see the standard 20x 1.75 only just squeezes in there and you could not fit a 2.125.

So my long winded question is, what do I have? Tange Mini forks, Kuwahara Mini Forks? It's got me stumped...

Look at the tire clearance...

The KZ-1 Forks (Supermax decals)

Pretty Beefy Tubing for a Mini fork?

Most Tange forks I have seen are stamped Tange on the steer tube.

They are the CrMo Kuwahara forks that came on the KZ series and the ET. I have some TRX if you want to do a trade. Let me know i need a set of them for my Hotheart.

Mate I'd love to, but unfortunately, they won't work for you...the problem is the steerer tube is too short. The photo's might make it a little confusing. Unless you have like a 3" headtube on your hotheart....the forks shown on the Supermax are the forks off my KZ-1 (I put the Supermax decals on there) and have the standard length steerer tube and normal tire clearance..

these forks you are looking at are just sitting in KZ-1 frame and don't have enough thread with top race of bearing in place. Also the wheel clearance shows that you can't fit a 2.125 tire in there either..... However, I'd be more than happy to buy your TRX's... smile.gif

hmmm the steer tube was probably cut down. If you want to do a trade I'd still do it. If not I have a couple of sets of TRX. I'll look through and see what I have. You after chrome?

Mini forks are longer Stu.. 20 x 1 1/8 is a larger wheel..?
