I have an OG teal, and an Imron re-spray....still have yet to see the OG color replicated properly.
I got the second teal offa buddy...wish he had been able to have it done locally, and then it could have been matched right. It's sweet, but it ain't right.
Imron...those that can get it done, won't reveal whom their sources are...as it's tough to get it done, and they don't want it all blown-out.
Great stuff.

I am rebuilding my brothers Kastan Pro XL and it has Kastan 181mm cranks with sealed BB, what kind of bottom bracket or bearing will work? What size is it? I think it may be 22mm but I am not sure...thanks for any info!!

Until someone comes forward to explain when these were originally made in the US ...

I still say " Hecho in Mexico " says it all.

As well almost everything today is out sourced but those who held off the longest like Cannondale get my respect.

Out sourcing is why this economy is in the state it's in, or at least the major reason. IMO.

It is my understanding, they chose to manufacture in Mexico because of EPA regs and California's EPA which obviously doesn't want ANY manufacturing going on, nor will they build their own nuke plant, preferring to buy energy from Arizona. Kastan was living in the San Diego area at the time (La Jolla?) and supposedly used skilled American labor for actual manufacturing of frames, but as stated above, forks were left over tapered sets from Japan.

Kastan was one of if not the first quality manufacturer to set up shop in Japan, back in '80 or '81. It was a business move that made him a very wealthy man. I believe in the beginning it was just complete bikes that were built in Japan since 85% of the components came from Japan anyway. I think the last American made Red Line product under Kastan were Flite Cranks.

The other urban legend about the Redline sale to SBS was that his exwife sold her half to them and SBS refused to let him create things like struts and so forth. Not sure if that is true. Either way, Linn Kastan is the mad scientist of BMX. I would have loved to have seen him and Voris team up to build some sort of crazy, insane BMX monster that people would scratch their heads in wonder and then copy 30 years later.

Does anyone know the specs or have the original ad with specs for Kastan bars? I have bars that are @ 28 1/4 inch wide and do not know if they are for a Cruiser or 20.

How tall are they?
