Full Version: 70's Shimano hubs?

Kurt.
Just wondering on the type of low flange Shimano hubs that were around in the '77 - '78 period for a build I am doing. Pics would be great!

I assume I am looking for a two letter code starting with a "B" ('77) or a "C" ('78).

Any hub with the right date code would work. In BMX im pretty certain they only marketed large flange hubs, but many racers sued 10 speed hubs. Ive been looking for a rear 78 hub for my Team Goose build for along time. I kinda gave up. Was annoying PMing everyone with a hub asking them to tell me the date code lol.

On a cool note I was bummed a bike i thought had 7bs had just 7x, but it had DX hubs with cassette so that was cool.

Really looking for low flange - doing a build like DC's '78 race bike. Low flange silver Shimano's. Sounds like I need to check out the road bike stuff.

Kurt.
Well here's the low flange Shimano hubs that were released in 1978 - with a period ad. The '78 ones have a "C" stamped as the first letter of the two letter code. "D" for 79 and so on. And I managed to find a set for my build. woo hoo!

Volcano
Hey Kurt - I found the 1978-79 Shimano MX catalogue for u mate. smile.gif

Kurt.
That's awesome Mick. That's '78 alright - in the pic Bobby Encinas is riding a Suzuki!
Volcano
I saw that Suzuki...very cool! smile.gif

Check this out...from 1979 Shimano catalogue...

.....and if Im reading this correctly, it's a low flange-single speed rear hub for a "disc brake" set-up...wow!

Volcano
Here's the 1978 Shimano coaster brake hub page.
(loving the quick-release brake set-up too)

COASTY
WOW! Good stuff Mick. I had all these back then.
Mr. Smith
I got a question please for anyone out there reguarding Shimano hubs.

I just scored a high flange steel rear cog 13T hub complete w/ the date code of "E" "6" or "E" "G".

Would anyone please tell me the correct date of this hub ?

It spins like butter and looks to be all og and never tampered with.

Thanks

Rob
