Those look pretty rare alright. The precursor to the Darrell Young forks? Pretty cool if they're factory. It seems awfully likely that they're a home modification though. I'm not saying they are, and I'm not doubting the integrity of the seller by any means, I'm just speculating. It would be cool to hear what Jim Melton says about them.

Were there any other JMC forks that were round at the top and oval at the bottom. I'm not too familiar with JMC, but seem to think that that the ones I've seen are aero/oval along their entire length.
Sure would like to see some 'before powder' pics.

those forks were part of a LBS score (15+ raw forks). The seller told the buyer that he use to order raw forks from Jim and painted them himself for his team riders . Chances are that the bike shop owner welded the tabs on.

Isnt that what drives the ego collecting herd?
I can think of a bus load of guys whose entire collections are based on the machismo of "I will pay that much for something No one ever used or seen."

To me I would think there would be a bunch of guys frothing at the mouth to buy these!!

If the LBS guy welded the tabs on, I'd say their value went down not up 1500 BIN is nuts. Hopefully Jim can clear up confusion

Wouldn't the forks be worth more if they were left it the raw state that they were found in? I'm no collector and couldn't even begin to know what any old school stuff is worth but I don't think I would have PC the forks.

Those forks didn't come out of our shop like that. I would like to know what bike shop they came from.

Well there you have it, the man has spoken. the forks are an afterthought. long after Jim shipped them that is LOL I think someone should let the seller know he is way out of line.

Setting aside the non-factory weld, these forks have a cool customization story that was somewhat common among real avid bmx shops back in the day. It certainly doesn't taint the forks value in my mind. Whether they're worth the asking price is still to be seen though.

Both the Darrell Young forks and the Andy Patterson forks had this very tube shape. They don't look quite as "aero" as the regular JMC forks, but they were able to withstand the rigors of a Darrell Young or an Andy Patterson a lot better!

Based on the location and the repowder job on eveything hes sold I'd bet the seller is Bill Stonebraker. This is the same guy thats powdercoated CWs in flourescent colors and offered Hutch frame decals where the one side was a mirror image of the other. I personally wouldn't trust anything he states in his auctions.

I remember when he posted the pictures on the museum a bucket full of forks and then some, it was an astounding score, however he should have taken quite a few before pictures to authenticate them as you now point out they seem suspect to someone who without knowing where and when he scored them. I wold never pay that much for any fork unless I won the powerball and certainly not a modified fork unless I personally knew the shop and had some sort of personal association to it.

Thank You Mr. Melton. That was what we needed as far as info.
and +1 on the de-value insted of increase lol.
I think I would spend my 1,500 on a DY OG frame and fork set.Instead of someone
else's welding upgrade.
Maybe I can weld a brace from a bottom tube to a seat tube on a Hutch Raider
and call it a Profile "upgrade" lmao
