i've got most of the simple stuff covered but need advice on wheels/cranks and options????

What do you have on there now? Odyssey Twombolts or Profiles for cranks. Odyssey Twisted Pedals. Madera Graffiti Font Hubs. S&M Slam XLT bars.
supergoose
i would try to get a suelo crank set. it's the same as a fly crank, but has shorter arms. i've seen a few used sets sell for $100 or less:

if the sky really IS the limit, i would get profile race hubs with blue six ti bolts. you can get these bolts with built in 14mm adapters and regular hex heads, if you want to put pegs on.

maybe a fly/suelo brake? they're good and some colors are always on sale. strip off the anno, if you don't like the color.

new pedals? maybe the new fly plastic ones, or if you want to spend more:

stem ... the new flybikes alta: http://www.danscomp.com/372043.php?cat=PARTS it's super light, looks super good and the price isn't bad either.

Before you spend a bunch rebuilding, check out the Fit 16" completes. My youngest is riding a very used (he is the third or fourth owner) Hoffman 18" and since he will be on it for a couple more years, he is picking up a new Fit 18 this week.

Even getting all new parts on that Hoffman you are still left with a frame that is several years old and probably heavier than the newer frames and you will probably be into it for a lot more money.

Thanks for advice.
Profile cranks are only one's I can find in 145's.
Profile hubs are nice but can't do micro drive cause brakes on chainstay, so...not sure about wheelset.
I'll be doing those Fly brakes.

TiTim, good thinking and smart too. Both FIT and S&M make nice 16's. This is probably more my project than his....he is 7 and would ride anything. He's got 2 little bro's that will grow into it. When we go 18" I'll be looking for that Mirra Co. Aluminum frame though. Thanks man.

I have had a great time building/customizing my son's 18" Premium Big Rig.

I started by replacing the stock seat and post with Alienation pivitol seat & post, added some Profile Dog Collar (bar-ends), then added the sick looking S&M wrap Lil' Redneck Stem, Seat Post Clamp, and 28T sprocket. Next I had John Kovachi build a set of wheels for my son's 18" Premium Big Rig; Alienation Black Sheep hoops (front: black, rear: polished), and Madera hubs (front: black, rear: graffiti). The front wheel is all black (hoop, hub, & spokes) w/ gold alloy nipples. The rear wheel has the polished hoop, with alternating red & black spokes w/ red & black alloy nipples laced to the Graffiti hub. The wheels look great. And finally swapped out the stck 990's for some pink Fly chain-stay mount rear brakes.

I am now looking for a brake lever and some cool pedals. Any ideas?

The '08 Premium Big Rig came with full-chromoly frame, fork, and handlebars so I have not looked to replace these items.

That's rad Man. What tooth cog/freewheel are you running? I didn't think I would be able to go down to 28T since we have chain stay mounted brakes.....obviously I was wrong!

Thanks. It has 28/10 gearing. I think it came stock with 33/15 which required a lot of effort to go no where fast. I called the guys at Premium and they suggested 28/10. They did not think 25/9 would clear the brake arms. I am glad I asked because the chain clearance is pretty thin over the brake arm. Truth be told the finish is pretty well taken off the end of the brake arm, but nothing of consequence.

Keep in mind this is an 18". With the shorter rear-end on the 16" you may be challenged to go to micro drive.

If skys the limit then I would have FBM custom make the frame!!!! $450, it'll be the only one in the world, lighter weight, last forever and exactly what you want!!!! Good luck!!!!! happy.gif
