If Brett (3rdgear) doesn't already have it, I suspect it will end up on ebay shortly.

I don't have it... Wish I did though, price was a little to steep for tax time.

huh.gif Wow. That's what happens potential buyers make offers sight unseen I guess. MAYBE if it was in the exact condition that it was BITD with all og parts, stickers, etc. But it's not. He should feel lucky if he could get half of that, especially in this economy. Oh well...I just hope it ends up in a "collectors" hands eventually...I guess we'll have to wait and see...

A friend just pointed out to me that the bike also has the wrong triple clamp on the forks!!!!! I didn't even notice from the bad pictures! The original triple clamp was silver and a completely different style! That also means it has the wrong stear tube!!!! dry.gif

I've had someone asking me a lot of questions about the bike over the past couple of days. Specific questions. Been wondering if he or a friend of his picked up the bike. Didn't think I'ld have to ask though but maybe I should. popcorm1.gif

I wouldn't even pay that much for it if I had the money to spare! I could make the bike brand new today for about $2,500 with better quality and lighter parts!!!! tongue.gif

yes that is true, but then again anyone could build any old school bmx frame and build it better today. the point is that ,that bike is special because of the fact when it was built it was light years ahead.i know you were the creator chad, not bashing but just pointing out that any old bikes, parts or frames can be reproduced but they will never be the originals.

I hear you brotha man and your right! It is a one-of-a-kind mid schooler! Just from my angle on the build, the frames back end is megga flexy. Some how the dimensions got messed up when the welder was building it. I had to have the drop outs removed, new ones fabricated and welded back. I really improvised just to make the bike rideable!
I'm still wondering who ended up with it as everyone seems really hush hush??

received bike yesterday 3-5-10, bike is in great condition besides being dirty and few minor issues.as for the fork clamps, they are not wrong, bike was raffled with the blue clamps that are on it, chad took the ones in the bike test in bmx plus off because of the steerer tube angle was not to his likeing. that came from chad himself.as for the parts taking awy from the bike i do not feel the same way. the frame and bars were worth what i paid for the whole bike and i am very happy with it. i can always have stickers made for it and find the minor parts that were changed. as for the cranks, they were blue pmc cranks with the blue anodizing removed from a portion of them originally. the pmc cranks on there now can be made exactly the same way with a little anodizing removal.it is in a good home and will be a welcome collection to my personal bmx collection.i thank shane and neal banks for allowing me the oppurtunity to buy this.
thanks again shane. ps shane please get me the bmx plus magazine with the bike featured as it was not in the package you sent me. just a remeinder shane.bike now resides in the good ole south.cajun country, good day
thanks

That's good that there aren't any serious issues with the bike. You missed what we were doing here though. We weren't really bashing the bike because of its current state. We were simple trying to make the seller, hopefully, by complaining, let it go for less money to who ever bought it! Did it work? That's up to you to decide as the buyer!!
Yes. I changed the crown and steer tube, still have them and didn't tell the seller...... pictures to you soon. Still only part of our evil plot to lower the bikes selling price. MMMuuuuhaahaahhaa!!!!!! The cranks were originally silver that I had dipped half blue. It'll work in reverse also though! Stickers? Easy fix! So in other words.... You're stoked dude and I'm stoked for you!!!!!!

no, i totally understood what was going on. but i do not like to do that, it does not seem like the right thing to do in order to get what we want. we should buy and sell according to our wallets and not our eyes. be fair buying from people and maybe they will be fair selling.again, not bashing on anyone but just like to be fair.i pay top dollar for some things i have and if i sell them for top dollar i feel comfortable because i did not rip anyone off and nor will they do that to me. mutual buying/selling strategies, i believe in that.

good day,
kiel

Dude. I'm the diet coke of evil......not evil enough. If the bike was sold, then a mutual agreement was reached making the buyer and seller both happy. My simple minded shananagans probably had zero to do with the final price. Speaking for myself, I was more bothered that the seller was trying to come across as "Hey everyone check out pictures of my cool bike" but was really only looking for a buyer. What ev". Everyone happy? I'm happy the bike ended up with a real collector and honored that you would pay so much to purchase it!

+1

Chad is not evil at all. In fact, far from it! He is probably the coolest dude I've dealt with since I got back into bmx. Judging by the title, "5000 dollar dream bike" the seller was fishing for information here and most likely a buyer. I kept saying that it would probably end up on ebay because the seller was obviously interested in getting top dollar. Kiel, me and you have had this discussion before. You and I are on the same page, "if you don't have the money, then don't buy it." Some people don't get that in this hobby and get themselves into financial trouble from getting things that they MUST have. I know that you aren't that way and I'm also sure to acquire the bike, you paid top dollar for it. Most likely a price that I would never drop on it and I am a big fan of Herrington bikes. But that is an opinion and everyone has one. The bike didn't look beat up or abused at all in the pictures, but it's not THE bike from the mag. It is the frame, fork, bars, headset, stem, and brakes, but some of the soul of the bike is gone without the og stickers, cranks, etc. Believe me bro, I am wrestling with almost the EXACT same situation and I am struggling with the decision to buy a bike with history (like this one) that is not complete or to build a replica since I am going to have to replace some of the parts anyway. Granted, this bike is a little different since it is literally one of a kind, but the principle is still the same. I know how rare some of your frames are. Don't you feel that they are more rare since they dawn the OG finish wearing OG decals? Or would you pay the exact same price for them if they dawned reproduced decals? Deep down, if you think about it, I think you would feel the same way I do, they wouldn't be worth as much. Again, just my .02 and I know that whatever you plan on doing with the bike it will be a STUNNER and I can't wait to see it finished! What hubs were on the bike?
kielcarline
i have spoken to chad and you are right , he seems to be a very cool guy. and mike, me and you have never had any problems of any kind .i just feel that this particaular bike deserved more credit than the run of the mill so called rare bikes. this bike is truly rare and 1 of a kind.i definately likee chad after speaking with him and again , you and me have always had good dealings my friend. wish you all the best

I actually feel the same way. I think this bike deserves much more credit than it has been given recently. Unfortunately the drama sorrounding this sale has made people a little bitter. This is essentially the holy Grail of mid school I am glad it is in good hands.
