Mr. Smith
At this point in my collecting career I realize I am truely addicted ! LOL !

Well right now I'm hooked on and fascinated w/ Auburns.

To most these might be low end bikes but I believe they are quite rare some models more than others. I picked up a '92 CR20RX frame and was trying to build piece by piece(LOL).

After searching high and low and asking many members for CR bars or box bars as they are called I found this one eBay. It was posted for about 2hrs. The pics were horrible all I knew is the bars looked very clean.

$210 BIN plus ship. Being an addict the adrenaline flowed as I hit the BIN button. About 2-3 days ago it showed up. A goreous condition factory purple metalic color.

Parts included at that price are as follows :

Frame, fork (chrome peeling at spots on inside of leg) and factory FSA headset complete. Top tube pad. CR box bars w/ decal fully intact (these bars are flawless) Robinson grips in awesome cond., GT Pro stem. Padded drop nose seat w/ some frontal damage, GT seat post mast (bent), Pit Bull II rear caliper, and front complete wheel w/ GT sealed bearing hollow axel hub.

* IF YOU HAVE A REAR HUB TO MATCH PM ME PLZ *

One chip in the paint from shipping about 1/4" dia. and one 1/4" dia cable rub thru other than that flawless paint.

It's a keeper as I most highly prize my true "survivors".

Thats a great Auburn....I'm looking for one of those myself. At the moment I've got a 1988 Auburn CR-20R and a 1991 Auburn CR-20RX.

Racer
Anyone that thinks of Auburn as low end simply doesnt know BMX.
Auburn bikes have a long history in BMX and the founders been in BMX since the sport took off.

Is a site I made after I found an Auburn. When ever I find a bike without a fan site I make a fan site for it.

Here are some pics of my 1988 Auburn CR-20R.....

Awesome score Rob! I really dig Auburns, my favorite mid school bike for sure!

Hey revcore, what kind of cranks are on your Auburn?

Those cranks are Johnny Chopper box cranks made in Australia. They use a 19mm 48 spline Profile spindle. They are rare because they are 178mm. They suit the Auburn well because their square shape matches the Auburn bars and the Tr-Link rear end.
Mr. Smith
First off I'd like to thank "Racer" for posting the link.

What brand of set post clamp is that ? That is sick !

That's one tight build bro !

Thanks for the comments Rob.
Unsure what brand of seat clamp it is, I bought it off ebay and it was originally purple anodized but I stripped it back and polished it. The Megabite tires are going to be replaced with Tioga Comp III's because the Megabites have dry rot in the sidewalls.
I'll see if I can find up a pic of my 1991 CR-20RX.

MR SMITH!!
that auburn was for sure a nice purchase!
you even recieved the aluminum tri-link rear end.
Nice start to a great build....and in no way were auburns EVER a low end bike.

I remember they did lose a bit of the cool factor when people found out they were owned by GT....a lot of guys that owned one were trading them off....anti GT corporation thoughts I guess.

sorta went the same for alot of the robinson and powerlite bikes I came across. oh well. memories.

Racer
Yeah when each of those companies were bought by GT alot of us old school racers fealt a loss and the brands lost some luster. But they never made a low end or even mid end Auburn. If I didnt need the money I wouldnt have sold the one I found.
pk ripped
They won bike of the year for several consecutive years in BMX Plus magazine, very highly regarded at the time.

Great looking bikes...great quality....

The rest is how i would have built it bitd...
Mr. Smith
Progress report :

Here is where I'm at right now.

All good builds take time.

That is the original purple factory powder / paint... just added new decals.

The rest of the parts are going to be correct as it would have came as a complete.

It took some time but I have ALMOST every part needed down to the GT Megabite tires in skinwall !

Rob

p.s. anyone having a GT sealed bearing rear hub or both plz lmk
Mr. Smith
The above "Raging red" '88 is awesome !

That's my favorite 1st gen Auburn color scheme and probably one of the harder ones to find.

The pre mid '93 models having the TT bend before the seat mast look aggresive !

Let's get some more Auburns posted up here guys !

Rob....
Which GT hubs do you need?
I have the set on my Auburn that I would trade...for a decent era correct set of rims..
I did not build mine to GT spec..
so a set of Rims1.75 and sealed hubs.. would be good for me...
These were said to me to be nos... hanging around.. the person I got them from said late 80s or early 90s.. I cant really tell...

click on the pic... they get bigger...

Let me know if this is what you need... I have the front and back...

your bike is coming along good...
I had a near factory perfect blue one that I traded for some other stuff...

JPR
I thought they were terrible riding bikes, but I still had my dad by one for my graduation in '88 because TC was my buddy. Didn't ride for long, though.

"Auburn test in '91. I made Karl Rothe and the Beave promise they'd run a bermshot. You haven't accomplished much in BMX if you don't have even a medicore bermshot photo in Plus!"

"I haven't seen this photo since it came out in '91. Thought it would be more bow-legged. Sorry TC, two piece frames were stupid. Neon Green? Eat your heart out Aaron Ross. GT dudes weren't happy Plus! let me test this wearing an S&M uniform, last shoot as an Air Force Test Pilot or whatever they called it."

Holy Smokes! JPR is on Vintage? Welcome, sir!

So who has an auburn that thay want to sell me? anyone ?
Mr. Smith
Progress report....

I was removing the stem bolts to clean them and thought why not take some pics.

This piece couldn't have been nothing more than a poser bike.

No dents, dings ... the CR bar decal 100% intact.

It's almost done but I move at a snails pace.

The finished product is the proof that time and patience are key.
