I've got the chance to buy a GT performer I think its around a 98-01 model. I want a mid school bike, does this bike fit into that category or is it More NU school? thanks Rob

Do you think its worth buying gong its very cheap, only £5, roughly the same in dollars. Just needs a set of wheels? Or should I wait till something older comes along? Quite like the frame style of the 92-93 gt bmx's.

5 pounds is less than 10.00, I'd think it would be worth the money, but not what I would call mid school.
I assume your across the pond. I've got a 95 Free Agent I'm letting go of. Shoot me a pm if interested.

Yeah there is no clear definition of mid school. And as the years pass im sure one day all the mid school stuff will be old school.
For me Old school is mid 80s Hutch and older.
Mid school for me is the new breeds White Bear, Hyper, Cheeta, American, Balance etc 87-88ish to like 97-98ish.
New school is any bike with both a 1 1/8" headset and canti mounts and no chrome or gussets, oversized size tubing etc.
Defined by all the bland dirt jumping bikes with tiny sprockets and no seat post and walgooses.
For some Mid school starts with Canti mounts on race bikes around 93/94.
Either way if its early mid 90s you will have yourself Old/Mid school.
But for that price for a GT its a steal.

a 98 or close. Great base for a bike. Good project while you hunt for an older one.

I think it is a 98 because i looked on bmx museum at 97-98 performers and apart from the change in frame design they look the same. Both have the lay back seat post and hard plastic seat and same style pedals. So i'm near sure its a 98. where 98 models still getting made in the USA because I know schwinn bought out GT around then, then in 2000 I think it was a Taiwanese company bought them? Also in 2000 frame material were changed for cheaper ones is this true? Are the 98 bikes 4130 cro-mo?

looks like a 98 since it has the 1" headtube and the smaller size dropouts... they were taiwan made. and they were tri-moly... or maybe it was chromoly downtube only, i dont quite remember.
i have a 98 performer too

Thanks nintendo, very help full. I think the whole front of the frame is 4130 cro-mo and the rear is hi- tensile steel. I've actually got the chance of a 01 model which I thought I'd use as a doner for the 98 as I like it more as its older and prefer the 1" headset.
