Just wanted to start the beginning of what I'm hoping turns out to be an awesome BMX reunion. For years I've wanted to get all of the riders from my teen years 93-98ish back out at the Chandler AZ track. After spending time talking to riders from that era and older, I've found that everyone has been very receptive to coming back to the track for a night of fun. There is much to do to organize something like this, with a few challenges as well. I wanted to post here to let anyone know who might be interested, and certainly reach out if anyone is able to help. To date here is where I am:
I've started the following group on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=170246417556
So far this has been where I've collected any info and riders as well. I encourage anyone to join. As for the non-Facebookers, I've purchased the BMXreunions.com domain and have hosting for it. However, nothing is up yet. Ideally, I can get a bulletin board up there to help organize anyone that's interested. Be patient and I'll make it happen asap.
I'm working to get the track rented at no cost so that this event is free to anyone that wants to show up. I've also been told that we can have the waiver signed by anyone willing to try the track again. It's all a work in progress, but I want to start as early as possible because of the biggest challenge; locating you old schoolers.
I'm going to swing by ABA and see if I can dig through some old BMXers to pull names and try to get the message out. I know there has to be a few handfuls of previous and current riders on vintagebmx.com willing to attend.
If anyone knows someone that would enjoy this, please mention it. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. My goal is for March/April on a weekend that hopefully doesn't clash with a major National for those still in the game.
My email off here is dallishughes@gmail.com
Thanks,
Dallis Hughes
