I just got this in the mail today and couldn't wait to take pics outside in natural light, so I'm sorry if the pics suck...

The story on this one goes like this...The former owner of this bike was the son of a guy who owned a bike shop. He was sponsored by the bike shop and mongoose and fell upon some hard times so he put this up on ebay...As many of you know, mongoose carbon frames are hard to come by (even though there is another one on ebay as we speak! laugh.gif ) but what really caught my eye about this one was the paint job...In the pictures it looks like a dark blue, but as I look at it, when it's not in direct bright light, it looks like a very dark blue/purpleish color...Every mongoose carbon that I have come across has had a black "bass-boat" sparkle finish with purple decals and a yellow outline...I shouldn't even really call them decals...The lettering appears to be screened on or it looks like maybe there is a clear coat ontop of the powder, I'm not sure if that would be the process that they would use, but they're definately not removable...I'm sorry I couldn't get better pics of the decal near the headtube, but it appears that "Cartoon Network" was a co-sponser of mongoose racing...The decal near the headtube reads "Cartoon Network Wacky Racing" with the number 29 next to it...The seat post area also has a number 29...So I guess that he was one of at least 29 factory mongoose riders??? I am going to ask the seller some more details later...

The serial number on the bike is hand written and reads CT6A663 and I noticed that the number 663 is written inside the headtube along with some other jibberish that I can't make out...

My plans for this bike are as follows and I'm looking for opinons...The obvious route would be to use as much carbon parts as possible, i.e. carbon spins and a answer carbon fork, but I would like to use all purple/polished components...I have a brand x titanium fork with a polished crown, brand x polished stem, purple single pinch technique cranks, purple technique carbon fiber hubs, purple odyssey t-1000 wheels, purple haro fusion bars, purple pmc seat clamp, black mongoose racing seat, and crupi pedals with purple/black "splash" JP cages that i would like to use...And I'd be on the lookout for a purple chris king headset to finish it off...What do you guys think about those component choices?

I'm psyched to get this build under way and I hope to have it done before summer... laugh.gif ...

As usual,

Mike's collection + 1
My collection + jealous.

Those old Mongoose frames are pretty cool. I've never been a fan of the Mongoose brand but I love that they tried new things when others wouldn't. It makes you wonder why they have fallen so far off the BMX boat. The carbon racers and the Triple Threat are both examples of Mongoose frames I would love to get my grubby mitts on someday.

For being as rare as everyone says, they actually pop up on the bay more than their relatively-rare-mid-school counterparts.

Just a thought but what about some HED rims?

It's not saying much but I'll be on the lookout for some anno purple and carbon clad parts for your build.

I agree, I do see them fairly often, but they usually aren't in good shape...This one is pretty nice considering it was raced...Someone else mentioned HED rims, that would be great, but I don't have a set and I've never seen a set for sale...But if you find a set I will be eternally grateful! laugh.gif

Just out of curiosity, how much do these frames go for on here or E-bay? Let's say if I had one that was in what I would call great shape (only some mild scarring from the seat post clamp area), from what I can see- all original stickers, black, and a 21" top tube........what would one of these things go for??????

(I'll let you know if its for sale when I weigh out the responses)

My source identified it as a 1996 model and in good condition with the canti mount behind the seatpost tube, and should fetch about 600.00 from what he saw.

I will post a few pics this afternoon and then decide what to do.

No way. It didn't even fetch $600 when it was new and won't now. Most of the ones that have popped up on ebay didn't sell because they have a high reserve. The frame that I had fetched just over 2 bills plus shipping.

Really? Hmmmph..........I would have thought that my reference would've been pretty close to the mark on the price. Lives in SoCal, rode for Mongoose for years, been racin forever......oh well. I guess I should just put it up on E-bay and make a reserve as close to that as possible and see what happens.

I did the pics on my cell phone, but can't load them on here cause it says the file is too large. If anyone is interested, I can e-mail them to you.

Man I wish I could find one of those in Wal-mart. tongue.gif Nice frame!

Thanks Lee, I have about 5 bikes that are 75%-80% finished and I haven't even started building this one yet. But it will get done sooner or later... laugh.gif

Hei! That frame is very much awesome...never even heard of it until just this moment...how much does it weigh? and your idea of going purple on the components is great...I love wildly over-the-top colorful bikes...just curious, how do you intend to clean up the few jags that are mucking up the frame's perfection?

good luck with the build if/when you finally get around to finishing it up wink.gif

I am not sure on the weight. As far as "cleaning up" the frame, I am going to leave it as-is. cool.gif

They weigh around 3lbs +/-. Mikes would likely to be under as it does not have the canti cable stop.
