OLD Schoolers - What New School Bike do you Dream of? Maybe something you'd like to get or already have!
I've been unemployed for 68 weeks now so I couldn't afford an $1800 custom built Eastern Grim Reaper 2, with a Freecoaster on Fly Bikes Front Rims. I settled for a DANSCOMP on sale 09 Eastern Metalhead [$329] that maybe has the same geometry as the Grim Reaper 2. Put $21 each Tree Stick pegs, new better brake pads, and an ebay Uni Seat on it for a total cost of $480 at 27.55 lbs. It rides great with the stock wheels but the grip of the stock brake pads sucked. Somehow, my bunnyhop is off and on with this bike - sometimes I do it and sometimes it kicks over. Like I gotta pull up with a big rear lean to get it up. It's just an ok modern ride for me. But it was one of the last modern bikes you could buy with front & rear brakes!
I think old school freestylers want a bike with front and rear brakes, even the modern ones. So goodbye to the 09 Eastern MetalHead and 09 GT Performer!
I also got a modded 2008 GT Performer. I wonder why I bought this 35 lb tank... After putting an FMF CF seat post and Animal Hamilton Plastic pedals and Plastic pegs, I got the weight down to 32 lbs. When I first test rode the bike it bunnyhopped, but now on my bike the bunnyhop is so so and mostly it kicks you over... And then the wheels have slippery sidewalls that brake pads find hard to grip... can't get such solid front brake action... Now I treat it more like a poser bike that's nice and pretty...
My other modern ride is my modded 06 Haro Retro Sport that sucks on the bunnyhop. I've posted pics of this pretty poser bike in a previous thread. It's a real beautiful looking bike that gets compliments...
My next dream ride might be the NEW Hutch Trickstar. Built with the lightest parts, 25 / 9 gearing, and a freecoaster... Hope I get employed for this one...
So what modern bikes do you dream of or got already? Do you wanna go with the modern trends of brakeless & slammed down seats?
Im 38 and been out of riding for 23 years. Wanted to get back in and decided to build a Strowler. Has very similar specs to an old school frame, 74.5 ht angle, 19.75 tt and also a long 13.5 cs. The bike feels good and its also roomy enough to take rides on with the family. You can build one for kinda cheap....you can find frames new for 150.00 and even less used. As for your brakes...buy some clear pads...I have the Odyssey ones and even on black rims....they work great.

I'm 41 and like the OP have been unemployed for quite awhile.
I still have my Old RL20 II Survivor which I just did a cleanup on this year.
As for new school bikes I'm looking at Subrosa's

Just got the Fit CR24 for the park.
I want to get the Sunday model C (24") and then turn the Fit into a flatland 24".
As far as a 20" I would like to build a Strowler as well.
I bought a KHE Militant and hate it.
The Strowler looks and sounds (from many posts) more like the bikes we used to ride.
I went brakeless over 20 years ago. Those days are over.

I LOVED the first version of the Militant and contemplated getting it. The red and black one. I don't know how it rode, but it looked sweet.

By the way...where can I find out more about the NEW Hutch bikes?
It looks like there was a site but it is down.

I have the 09' Militant LT. Will sell it cheap. I will probably just strip some of the parts to build the Strowler if I don't.
I didn't do any real research and just bought it online without trying one out which was a mistake.
I am way to tall and way to old for that little trike.
I'm riding a 21" Mutiny Sinister frame, with S&M race bars, Odyssey wheels, tires, and pc pedals, 180mm Profiles, and 30/10 gearing. I really like it - I thought I might have trouble getting used to a longer front end and shorter chainstay (back end is 13.5") but it feels perfect. The bars and cranks are chrome, and they look good with the trans black frame. I might put some chrome DK or S&M forks on there eventually (I'm currently running janky looking black MacNeil IDs). Maybe I'll post a picture of it once I get my new Aitken seat on there.
I guess my dream bike right now would be either a Fit or Sunday cruiser, or maybe a second bike set up mostly the same way but brakeless - a brakeless Subrosa twin top tube Pandora set up with some other retro-y stuff would be cool. A S&M Cam Wood or a Stricker would be nice too, or a Fit Eddie. I barely have time to ride the bikes I have, so if I'm going to dream about anything, it would be riding more.

I only ride 24'' or 26'' these dayz but I do have a 05 Redline cruiser that I take jumping and to the track occasionally.Last week I saw a 24'' Profile Rocket xl frame at a friends and instantly I had to have it! I will be taking apart the Redline and transfering everything to the Profile real soon.Cant wait to have a 24 inch new schooler with a 23 inch top tube, sucker has all kinds of leg room!
Oh, one other second bike setup I'd like - shorter frame with a steeper headtube, front brake only, and a freecoaster. All chromed out and stupidly light.
