Getting ready to build my new wheels and debating lacing. thought radial front 3x rear. what you got?
Just JeffB now
radial lacing does not do well with lateral loads (side to side pressure). There are a handful of flatlanders around here, and the wheels I have built for them have all been 3X F/R with heavy gauge spokes.

3 cross on front and rear.

Well I'm using 48 hole rims. Got a guy around here that rides radial on front. Totally awesome rider, and he has no issues. I'm a little heavier of a rider than him though. Was going to do 3x front and rear but always liked the look of radial front. Looks like I might stick with tried and true.

I seem to recall both Chase Gouin and Jesse Puente both using radial lacing on their flatland rides. I'm not a flatlander and have no experience with radial lacing. Er, scratch that, I think I have a cruiser front wheel that's radial laced that gives me no trouble. I ride trails on it occasionally. I'm heavy and not that smooth fwiw.

There used to be a ton of flatlanders in this forum. I guess their all at flatlandfuel or something.

This bike has a radial laced front wheel. I didn't know it was going to be radial when I agreed to buy them but they've been working (like this) for...I dunno, a couple years now. I'm not a fan of the idea but they're working. I'm 215 pounds.

Scroll down for a cover shot (orange Ride BMX cover) of Chase with radial laced front wheel:

OK, I looked for some pictures of Jesse Puente with radial laced wheels but I couldn't find any. So maybe I'm (gasp!) wrong.

OK, now I went to flatlandfuel and went to the forums and searched "radial lacing" and came up with several threads. You won't get this kind of service everywhere.

still might do it, not a hard core flatland guy and dont use bike for anything else. My Fit cruiser is for that.

I have never had any problems with a radial front, they dont have to take the torque of the rr, just make sure your using quality spokes and for a heavier rider brass nipples, I have always liked the look of radial, just did my daughters radial on one side 3x on the other, and it looks SIC!

You can search globalflat for several threads on lacing.

I have radial front and rear wheels. Both are 48's with 14g spokes. My old bike has the same- radial 48's front and rear, but with 13g spokes.

Never had a problem with either of them, and they look cool too. Lol.

Went ahead and did radial front 3x rear. I'll get some pics.

I run radial front and back with no probs.

sweet! Cool to see people taking a shot and running something unique...even more cool when it works well!

My only personal experience with radial lacing was back in `88 or so. Bought some wheels from this dude down the street. Taco`ed the rear doing a lawnmower LOL.

BTW, BS...you don`t count. The way you seem to hover, as if not affected by gravity`s evil ways puts no stress on your wheels (well, at least that`s the way I hear it...)

It's not the hovering that puts stress on them, it's the 50-50 landings that do! wink.gif

I used 14G stainless spokes radial laced with a coaster for 10 years. Not a problem. Now I run 3 cross but that is just because it's easy to get spokes that length.
